Norfolk regained the Eastern Division lead by four games over Miami with an eight-game winning streak beginning August 12. CF Scott Heyer (.348, 17 HR, 61 RBI, 31 2Bs, 99 R, 91 BB, 43 SB) and RF Rick Brown (.265, 17 HR, 75 RBI, 122 BB) lead the Clipper offense, while Joe Melton (12-5, 2.49, WHIP 1.14) and CL Dave Samuelson (8-2, 5 SV, 1.47, .161 OAVG) are keying the league's top pitching staff.
The West remained virtually unchanged as San Antonio continues to hold a precarious three-game lead over Dallas for the top spot. CF Jeff McGovern (.313, 10 HR, 65 RBI, 80 R, 82 BB, 54 SB) and 2B John Watkins (.255, 9 HR, 69 RBI, 50 SB) are one-two in the CBA for swipes, and Missions closer Sam White (35 SV, 2.76, WHIP 1.12) keeps improving every month.
