NASHVILLE - Joe Deutsch hit a two-run shot off Steve Boyd (L, 2/3 IP, 4 R, 4 H) in a four-run 4th as the Western All-Stars defeat the East, 5 to 1. Singles by Chris Wardell, Raymond Timmerman and Jeff McGovern, followed by an RBI groundout from Charlie Norwood, set the table for the 396-foot blast to right. Deutsch, 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI on the night, was named the game's MVP, while Western hurlers Absher (3 IP, 1 H, 6 K), Elswick (W, 2 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K), Taylor (2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) and Bivins (2 IP, 0 H, 1 K) held the East to six hits. Rick Brown's RBI-single in the top half of the 4th scored Richard Safford for the East's only tally.
