MEMPHIS - Catcher Jim Boon's blast in the 4th scored three Blues and gave Memphis their first Western Division pennant. The 438-foot shot off Dave Donnell (L, 5 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 K), Boon's seventh of the year, was all the offense Frank Welsh (W, 15-13, 8 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K) and Rick Vance (SV, 30, 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K) needed before 39,986 screaming fans at The Fabulous Avalon.
New Orleans 4, Dallas 1
NEW ORLEANS - C Mark Jost hit a single with the bases loaded and two out in the 7th to crush the Drifters playoff hopes as New Orleans wins, 4-1. Joseph Phillips (L, 12-10, 6 2/3 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K) loaded the bases with a double, a hit batter and a walk before Harry Garvin (1/3 IP, 2 R, 3 H) gave up the two-run hit to Jost. Ronald Absher (6 2/3 IP, 1 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 5 K) was effective, while Blaney (W, 5-3), Garrison, Holsinger and Bivins (SV, 40) combine to allow just one hit and one walk in the final 2 1/3 innings for the Pelicans.
