Three guesses who's leading the East? Well if it's July, it must be the Norfolk Clippers, who go 19-8 in June including an eight-game winning streak versus Tampa and Carolina beginning June 9 to take a 1 1/2 game lead over Atlanta. The Flyers, meanwhile, drop from first to fourth after a pair of five-game losing streaks.
Meanwhile, the Battle for Texas heats up in the Western Division, with Dallas and San Antonio holding identical 47-33 records 8 1/2 games clear of third-place New Orleans. Drifters closer Chase Kirkham (5-1, 18 SV, 2.06 ERA, OAVG .214) is having yet another stellar year at age 32.
Elsewhere in the West, Memphis rightfielder and career .271 hitter Larry Richards hit for the cycle against New Orleans June 3, and Nashville's Bill Ebeling throws two consecutive one-hit shutouts, beating Houston on June 14 and Memphis on June 19.
