Though Norfolk continues to hold a comfortable seven game lead in their quest for a three-peat, Miami goes 20-7 in August, including an eight-game win streak over San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, to keep the Clippers honest. Meteors 1B Brian Gray (.348, 22 HR, 83 RBI, 99 BB, 40 2Bs) is making a bid for the Eastern Division Triple Crown but is five homers and 14 RBIs shy of the Western leaders overall.
The West is not expected to be decided until the final weekend of the season, with San Antonio holding a precarious two game lead over both Dallas and New Orleans. Switch-hitting SS Ken Bennett (.337, 26 HR, 97 RBI, 87 BB, 19 SB) tops the Missions' offense, second in the league in batting (.272).
