Flyers Weekly, Volume XXIV, Issue 2 - March 2, 1971
Spring Training Edition
The Flyers head to their training camp in Columbus a much leaner team on the pocketbook than they were six weeks ago. A look back at the key transactions:
January 29 - Our new skipper celebrates his birthday by putting the club back on budget, sending SP Elmer Sexton with a month's salary ($3.25 million) to Dallas for 3B Darrel Robinson [5/6/5] (.233 in 133 AB).
February 1 - Another $5.7 million saved and another hole filled when 2B Elliott Suggs is traded to Atlanta for CF Matt Kirk [5/4/4] (.265, 12 HR, 69 RBI).
February 2 - Free agent MR John Jahnke [4/7/9] (3.64 in 99 IP) signs with Carolina for three years at $2.9 million.
February 4 - MR Justin Randolph [6/7/7] (12-8, 6 SV, 5.61 in 101 IP) is acquired via waivers from New Orleans.
A good start for Jeremy McGrath, dropping the payroll from $100 million, highest in the league to $76.5 million, seventh in the league. Now let's see if he can win some games!
