NABF Heavyweights Of The 80's Tournament
The NABF have formally sanctioned a sixteen boxer tournament involving American/Canadian fighters prominent through the 1980's. A few big names will be missing from the tournament which will carry the added prize of a mandatory crack at current champion Joe Louis NABF crown. Larry Holmes declined the offer of a place amongst the sixteen, citing that he was more interested in a challenge for the world crown. Current World Champion Mike Weaver will also be missing for obvious reasons. The sixteen contenders and their current WBF rankings are as follows.
Trevor Berbick (63) James 'Bonecrusher' Smith (77)
Randall Cobb (72) Gerry Cooney (67)
Michael Dokes (54) Greg Page (25)
Earnie Shavers (58) Leon Spinks (68)
Renaldo Snipes (77) Pinklon Thomas (62)
James Tillis (75) Tony Tubbs (31)
Tony Tucker (27) Tim Witherspoon (38)
Tyrell Biggs (47) Marvis Frazier (74)
Each layer of the tournament will feature ten rounds of boxing and all fights will be staged in Las Vegas.
