First career fight was in January 1967 against Pedro Agosto who was sporting a 9-0-0 record in his early career. Agosto KO'd Hardiman in the 4th round and he didn't get back in the ring for over 2 years. Finally in May 1969 he fought for the 2nd time of his career, with worse results, a 1st round KO at the hands of Dick Hall. That followed with decision losses to Jesse Brown and a MW-Willie Stewart(5-2-0,2) before winning a 4 round UD against a Paul McDonough who was fighting his first and last career fight. Hardiman's last fight was in January 1971 loosing on points to another MW-Skip Yeaton(35-25-3,19).
The fight...
Like fellow Puerto Rico heavyweight, Jose Roman, Agosto is in Worcester for the 2nd straight week for a heavyweight bout having knocked out in the first last Monday, Bob Hazelton for his 9th win without defeat. This Monday he’s taking on new comer out of New York, Billy Hardiman. Agosto ended up with a pretty easy time of it back in January 1967, knocking out Hardiman in the 4th round.
In our replay, Agosto does Hardiman in even quicker and easier as pummels Hardiman with hooks, crosses and uppercuts sending Hardiman down for a 5 count about halfway through the first round, then he moves in close forcing Hardiman against the ropes and continues to pound away before finally at the 2:14 mark of the 1st round, the referee calls it off, handing Agosto a 1st round TKO victory for win number 10.
