COLUMBUS' DAY!

Columbus (AP) - Columbus has thrown down the gauntlet in the DCL by becoming the first franchise to have two deities on the roster. With the signing of free agent catcher Jupiter to a 4-year, $85.1 million dollar contract, Columbus now has two deities residing in their infield. Columbus shortstop and Hindu deity Vishnu is a perennial MVP candidate and will now have the Roman Father God hitting in the clean-up spot right behind him.

Jupiter was viewed as the least desirable of the free agent deities and many were surprised that he agreed to sign with a team in the United League, where he hasn't made the All-Star squad since 3005. Jupiter has failed to hit over .400 the last three years and has never hit 80 HRs in a season. But, with Vishnu hitting right in front of him, Jupiter will now have a much better opportunity to get some pitches to hit.

"Jupiter has struggled the past three years, true," began Vishnu at the press conference introducing Jupiter to the media, "But he was in Cincinnati. Have you been to Cincinnati? I would struggle if I had to live there, too. We feel that here in Columbus, he will get the change of scenery he needs to get back on track and regain some of the confidence he has lost the past few years."

"Vishnu has welcomed me with open arms," Jupiter stated, "a lot of people think that we're just prima donnas, you know, egomaniacs and all that, but that's not how it is with me and Vish. We're just going to go out there and enjoy the game and play it to the best of our abilities. Besides, we're the only team in the league with two deities. We're going to smoke everybody!"

Jupiter has had an unimpressive career thus far when compared to his fellow deities and will need to have a dramatic turnaround to have earned such a pricey contract. Jupiter has hit two cycles in his career, been named Player of the Week four times and Batter of the Month once. He also won a Golden Glove in 3006. His best year was 3006 when he hit .448 with 77 HRs and 195 RBI.
