Flyers Weekly, Volume XXVI, Issue 2 - March 5, 1973
Spring Training Edition
Not a lot of offseason action for the Flyers... at least until the very end:
February 8 - RP Terry Bingham [9/7/3] (40 SV, 3.27 in 52 1/3 IP, WHIP 1.26) is brought back for another year at $3.4 million.
March 2 - Just prior to the Rule 5 Draft, Carolina announces the biggest trade of this offseason, sending SP Justin Randolph (19-6, 3.36, WHIP 1.26) and $10 million to division rival Tampa for CF David Powell [9/9/8] (.300, 29 HR, 100 RBI, 113 R, 111 BB). Powell was originally drafted by the Flyers, #2 overall in 1966, but was traded to the Tomahawks the following year for RP Kevin Hodgkins. He was the Eastern Division MVP in 1971, hitting .310 with 30 HR and 100 RBI.
The club is now off to spring training in Columbus... They open the season at State Fair Park against Memphis on Tuesday, April 3. See you then!
