Beecher was the self proclaimed Junior Featherweight Champion of the world; a title that he bestowed upon himself after defeating Freddie Jacks in 1921. Beecher put the title on the line the following yearagainst an inexperienced Tibby Watson, the two fought twelve rounds with Beecher winning on points. Beecher was a decent defensive boxer with a pretty fair chin (he was only stopped once toward the end of his career). Charlie fought some of the more active if not the best fighters of his day including Dutch Brandt, Frankie Burns and Dick Loadman.
