GBA CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS

Riddick Bowe will make the first defense of his World title he won against Mike Tyson, when he takes on Tim Witherspoon in July. Witherspoon is coming of an impressive kayo over Evander Holyfield.

Bowe, upon winning the World title, vacated his North American and US titles. GBA officials, however, have decided to no longer have a US title. The Ohio title is also being dropped. Ohio champ James 'Buster' Douglas, who was to be the mandatory challenger for the US title, will instead box Larry Holmes for the vacant North American belt in May.

The vacant Commonwealth heavyweight and middleweight titles will be contested for in May as well. Lennox Lewis and Trevor Berbick will meet for the heavyweight title, whilst Alan Minter and Maurice Hope will meet for the middleweight belt. The vacant British middlewight title will aslo be on the line.
