Thumbs up Sneak Preview of Iatric's Reference Utility

Awesome Thanks, once again, for allowing me the honor of checking your utility out. I sent you an e-mail with plenty of a$$ kissing but I told you I'd send some more love your way on the boards. I just ran the utility with my main solo league and I'm crying right now. Seriously. The new format was the way to go, by the way. Looks very polished. I think I'll check out my star thirdbaseman's page, oh that's what his secondary average is I'm crying, seriously. If there was a graemlin for tears of joy, I'd be using three right now...

I got it first <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Hope the directions worked out alright, not sure how much Iatric changed what I compiled for him.

I may have a few years uploaded this evening.

It was easy enough to follow Scott, only noticed one typo that I informed Iatric about. It was more of my mistake hurrying to use the utility <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I can't say enough about how awesome this utility is. It'll alow you to do the kind of analysis with your fictional/online league that people do with real baseball stats. Want to know who was the best power hitter at home, who has the best home earned run average, etc...I know a favorite of mine will be the ability to check a player's career postseason stats. Hold on, I need some more tissues

Wallman's does look really good - and very east to use.

Haven't seen Iatric's (besides the previews he's posted)... but both should be great.

Question

Hey Scott or Iatric, I noticed the retired link works on the utility but in the instructions it didn't say to make a csv file of retired players. Is there a way to get the retired players to show up and if so what would the name of the retired players file have to be?

Dargone,
It looks like the page is there and he just might have to finish up some work on it. The links across the top are all dead so they are probably not complete yet..My guess would be that you output the Retired Players data from the reporter but that is just my guess. Im sure he will have it up and running soon. I have it working without a problem through a season. Very straight forward to use.

For example, with Boys of Summer, I had the league files for 1904 thru 1910. When I exported 1904, all players are exported, but some retire before 1905. They will show up since I was able to export the csv files for 1904 so it shows their last season. In 1905, they aren't in the CSV files, so their career ends there as far as the stats. The retired page then looks at the most recent year you have exported. In my case, that is 1910. It then compares the current year to the last year that shows up for a player. If the last year is prior to the current year (which 1904 would be), the player would be flagged as retired and appear on the retired player index.

However, If I didn't have the previous years files and started with 1910, the only players I would see are those still in the league in 1910 and not any of the retired players. In this case, here's what I'd do. For the first year you still have the league file for, in addition to exporting the team and free agent files, you could also export the retired players (using some naming format like 1910_RET_RET.csv for the file name if 1910 was the first year you had... don't export retired players from any of the later years since the player will still be there... only your first year).

Hope this makes sense and to be honest, I haven't tried it so I don't know what kind of data will be exported by the CSV reporter. Demographics and ratings would be there, but I have no idea whether any stats would show up or not.

Did you not see any retired players at all?

Iatric,
That makes sense.... I didn't have any players at all but I had only done it for a single season thus far... Just about to finish up a second one now. I was getting an error [run-time 13] a bit earlier with it but as I think of it now I think I messed something up with the reporter exports..

Thanks Iatric. I only exported my current league year which is 1952. I haven't progressed into 1953 which explains why I haven't seen any retired players yet, right? My understanding is that as soon as I save some stats from my next season I'll see all the retired players that retired after 1952? I'll just be missing those players that retired after 1951 and earlier correct? Thanks again

Question

Scott I ran into a problem using the utility. I e-mailed Iatric but perhaps you can help me. When creating the csv files for my second season and then trying to update the html I'm receiving this error:

Runtime error 62
Input post end of file

I even deleted and was able to run the program with only my first season's csv files. However, if I tried to run the program with the csv files from the two seasons, I continue to receive this error. Does this have to do with the beta perhaps? Thanks, for any and all responses

For some reason, the CSV reporter created a blank player line. I added code to ignore blank player lines.

No, it generally means you have a messed up .csv file (not enough fields)... did you potentially try to edit any of the .csv files, especially in Excel, or even just save the file in Excel? (Excel can't load the entire file, so it will cause problems if you try to look at the file and then save it)

Edit - Iatric beat me too it, I can create that error or a similar one by messing up the .csv files <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
