May 25, 1950 (Thursday) - Chicago, IL

W/L record 18-20 (.474), 6th place, 4.5 GB, Streak L2, Last10 5-5

The Chicago White Sox beat the Athletics in big fashion behind a two-hit shoutout by Billy Pierce Thursday in front of a crowd of only five thousand.

Pierce struck out five and walked only two en route to his fifth win of the season.

"I really felt comfortable out there today", said Pierce in a post game interview. "I was getting ahead of the hitters most of the time, and with the help of some great defense behind me, we were able to make things look easy."

Things weren't easy for the Athletics, though. After coming off a disappointing extra inning loss Wednesday where they mangled Sox pitching with 16 hits, team leader Elmer Valo commented, "It was a tough loss out there today, especially since we left most of our offense behind yesterday. Billy did a number on us, but our bats were just asleep today. Brissie kept us in the game, but we just ran out of time, and the Sox bats woke up in the late innings. I think we're ready to head back home after this long road trip."

The A's finished their tour 6-7 and find themselves in 6th place, 4 1/2 games behind the league leading Detroit Tigers.

They take on the New York Yankees Friday afternoon at Shibe Park. The Yankees are in 4th place, two games over .500 with a record of 19-17.
