Post Another idle trade AI question

I just went through the new-season routine in my solo fictional league, including the preseason trading frenzy.

One of the computer GMs offered me a 27-year-old first baseman who had just had an MVP-caliber year (33 HR, league-leading .387 BA) and two minor leaguers, all for a 24-year-old catcher-outfielder who had just hit 17 HR and .280 in AA and was rated pretty low by my scout (the famous this-guy-doesn't-belong-in-the-major-leagues).

Admittedly, my scout's pretty mediocre, but I don't think he's THAT far off.

Question? Since it's obvious the AI thinks my guy is pretty hot stuff, what could it possibly be about an ordinary AA player that would make him so appealing? Not a great hitter, not a great fielder, not a great runner. Is it that catcher-outfielder thing? Or what? Any hypotheses?

BTW, I didn't make the deal. House rules. No deals if I think they're silly.

What your scouts are telling you about players isn't what other teams scouts are telling them.

In this case your scout is seeing a middle rung talent, theirs - a star is born.

The question is: who's info do you trust?

In a few seasons I've played I had a REALLY bad scout. I ignored everything he told me and went by the generic 'average' scoutedratings avalible in the top 100 FA listing or trade window.

But when another teams 'Brilliant' scout wanted one of my bad players too much, I took note of it. That offer he made was as good as him loaning me his scout.

Hey! I just noted our member numbers are sequential.

Maybe #987 should post the next reply on this string...
