Missing data in HTML files
I am new to OOTP and I have a question about something I've noticed and don't understand. It is a little hard to explain, so please bear with me; I'll try my best to make it clear.
It seems that certain things do not get updated until AFTER I press the "PROCEED TO NEXT SEASON" button. In particular, the Batting Avg and ERA leaders in the Record Book; and the Standings and League Leaders in the League History. So, if I generate HTML files at the end of a season, this information is missing. If I proceed to the next season and THEN generate the HTML files, I get that missing stuff, BUT I lose all the season stats in the player pages (I assume because the next-season processing zeroes out the player data in preparation for the new season). There must be a way around this. Hopefully, I am just missing something simple that you guys who are more experienced can clue me in on. How the heck do I export to the HTML files and get everything? Hope this is clear enough... |

Actually the players stats from the previous season will be on their player pages, it'll be in the career section of each individual player page. What you will lose is the players stats on the teams roster page.. and there is not much you can do about it... unless you generate the first report and then generate the second report with only the league history and record books.
If you don't want to wait you can always add these in by hand by simply editing the file, but that is a real pain. (Just long and tedious not hard) |

You pretty well have it right. What I've done is to print two copies, one before and one after (to a different directory) to capture all the information - or, the other choice is to accept what's missing on an "after" shot. I, too, hope this is corrected in version 4.

By the way--Henry, I read Coover's book back when it first came out in 1968. It's one of my favorites. I see you're doing an OOTP-based version of the UBA. Good luck with it. I think it's a great idea. But have you found a way to get around that problem you mentioned (where the game crashes after a few seasons with a single league/no playoff configuration?). I've been experiencing the same thing, as I've posted in the topic on it.

Thanks for letting me know you looked it over Sometimes I get the feeling I'm the only one that cares LOL ... I haven't found a way around the problem... ran a ton of tests and it seems to be a problem with any league that doesn't have a playoff round. I may have to wait till version 4 before I can continue on with the UBA

Yes, hopefully that will be fixed in 4. I suppose you could create another league though. In fact, in the book I recall that Henry had wanted to do just that so he could have a post season, but he concluded that it would be too much work. Of course this wouldn't be a problem with OOTP. Or you could even set up a dummy 2-team league and just ignore its results, just as a way of getting around the apparent bug. Kind of an ugly solution, but it might work as a stop-gap if you really wanted to keep the UBA going.
I wonder if Robert Coover might be interested in knowing about your league. He is on the English Dept. faculty at Brown University and has a web page at <a href="http://landow.stg.brown.edu/HTatBrown/CooverOV.html" target="_blank">http://landow.stg.brown.edu/HTatBrown/CooverOV.html</a> I was unable to find an email address for him. By the way, I wrote to Coover back in 1968 right after I read his book and he sent me back a post card. I still have it; I use it as a book mark when I re-read his book. In the post card, he mentions that he played a "more modest version" of the game when he was younger. |

I've thought about "rigging" a fix to the UBA to allow me move forward, but I think I'd rather wait until v4 and do it the way I originally planned.
In the meantime, I'm putting together my 2nd league, the Federal Baseball Conference which will consist of the 8 team Pacific Coast League (from about the 50s) and the 8 team Continental League from 1960 (never happened). I'll be using fictional players to start.. thinking about drafting in real rookies as time goes on (think that would be a nice touch). I've got two choices (1) to start in 1952 when the PCL almost became a major league, and simply "pretend" Branch Ricky came up with the Continental League idea then, or (2) start the league in 1960 and assume the PCL joined Branch in his "new league against expansion" idea. The 1960 start makes more sense, but I'd miss all those great 1950's players... |
