is it always this bad?
i started a historical league in 1903. cleveland and pittsburgh are managed by humans, and the computer manages the other 10 teasms. i've just finished the 1912 season. so far, cleveland has ALWAYS finished in first place, and pittsburgh has finished in first place since 1904 (they finished 2nd in 1903 behind chicago). i want a challenge, and not to be assured of 1st place by the all-star game.
some rules we've applied to our league are: cleveland or pittsburgh cannot trade rookies that other teams draft until they've been in the league for 5 years. the 2 human teams are allowed 2 trades per year, but very rarely do the they make a trade. is the computer manager that bad? or is a human team favored in the outcomes? pittsburgh just finished the 1912 season with a record of 133-29. i do NOT use the era calculator, and the league totals are the same for 1912 as they were for 1903. any help/advice would be appreciated. thanks. |

From my experience in starting 1903:
Cleveland is loaded with starting pitching (Joss, Moore, etc.) and some pretty nice hitters in Lajoie, Bradley, and Hickman. I also had them as human controlled and found it wasn't too challenging to finish in first each season. I've messed around with the league totals to get an accurate statistical model (in my eyes) and have implemented a few house rules such as letting the computer do all my draft picks (so even if I'm picking 16th and Ty Cobb is still available, it will probably take the 15th or 16th rated pitcher in the first round). This has helped somewhat, but I've suspended play until OOTP4 comes out and the updated financial model will hopefully make things more difficult (I've also set my fan base and market size to the lowest settings while maxing out everyone elses). As for Pittsburgh, they start out with Honus Wagner, Ginger Beaumont, and Fred Clarke to name a few, so they should lead the league in batting right away! I don't think their pitching is too shabby either (Deacon Phillipe?) Any way, I wish the challenge was there without all the house rules, and could guide you in a better direction, but....I'm waiting until March 1st!!! |

So let me get this straight,
Your taking the 1903 NL pennat winner and the 1903 3rd place team and your complaining coause your winning...Dude id be more concerned if i was losing.. You want a challenge How bout taking the Browns & the Senators. And i do mean those teams without trading for all the best players. Try the 62 mets. Bottom line is you dont have a challenge cause your making too easy on yoursel. |
