small bug?
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I encountered a small bug while playing. I accidentally hit bunt for hit rather than sac bunt in a game, and the batter was thrown out at first, but the runner advanced. I'm not sure what the ML rule is, should this count as an official AB? In the game, it did. Not too significant.
I haven't posted 'round these parts since the OOTP3 days, but OOTP4 is outstanding. I'm also pleased to announce the White Sox are now back-to-back WS champs. (We'll go after No. 3 when I get off work). |

Its a sacrifice, thus no at bat.
edit: actually maybe this is the official scorers judgment? If he sees the batter attempting to bunt for a hit (you can usually tell since its a different stance) he can score it as a fielders choice? Not sure, I'd say the game is scoring it correctly. [ 04-23-2002, 06:53 PM: Message edited by: Kahkhing ] |

Except, technically when a batter is attempting to get a base hit it isn't a sacrifice. Its a FC.
Which means OOTP is correct in this situation. Now in reality any Official Scorer who sees a bunt will award the sacrifice, but in OOTP world the Official Scorer, knows for a fact that it was an attempt at a hit and not a sacrifice, so he can get away without awarding the sacrifice and still be correct. Edit to be specific this is MLB Rule 10.09 section d.
quote:
Do not score a sacrifice bunt when, in the judgment of the scorer, the batter is bunting primarily for a base hit and not for the purpose of advancing a runner or runners. Charge the batter with a time at bat. NOTE: In applying the above rule, always give the batter the benefit of the doubt.

Here's the source: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/baseball_basics/mlb_basics_official_scorer.jsp [ 04-23-2002, 06:54 PM: Message edited by: ScottVib ] |
