Bunker Hill 6, Freeburg 2 (MEBL -- Low Minors)

Nice win. We got to to a 6-0 lead early thanks to a big 5-run 2nd inning. We had 7 of our 11 hits in that inning. It's a good thing we didn't spread them out more. Meanwhile, Freeburg scattered their hits and could only score a couple. RF Steven Lewis had the biggest day for us, hitting a 2-run HR and getting on base 4 times.

Freeburg 16, Bunker Hill 3 (MEBL -- Low Minors)

Freeburg erupted on us. They scored in 5 straight innings, capped with a 7-run 8th. They started the 8th with 8 straight hits. 1B Leonard Pennington had two home runs and RF Chris Sanford had 2 triples. But really, everyone was hitting. Not much we could have done in this one. I hope they got this out of their system.

Valmeyer 3, Bunker Hill 1 (MEBL -- Low Minors)

Our win streak is stopped at 4. Valmeyer jumped out on top with two home runs in the bottom of the first. We shut them down after that, giving up just one hit over the next seven innings, but the damage had already been done. SP Eric Schmitt got the win for them, pitching eight strong innings. We were just never able to get much going offensively.

1878 Season

Reds were out of the race just after the All Star break. Finished the season 26-34. Couple of bright stops. Jim McCormick, 10-9 2.08 era and struck out 77. Steve King, .313 BA 3 HR 60 RBIs. And Jimmy Wood, .322 BA 42 SB. The Reds drafted Harry Richardson (Old True Blue) in the first round. Hopefully will not get fired next season as this year the owner was very mad and furious.

On to 1879.
