The HBL
The HBL is a fictional league, but with historical context, with all teams played and managed by the computer. I started it in 1900 with 1900 settings, and am having it roll settings forward. Right now there are sixteen teams, four divisions of four. The division winners play each other, and then the winners play. The plan is to add two expansion teams every ten years.
There are a few unusual things about the league. First off, I crunch a lot of numbers for it. Each season I compare the fielding quality of each player with the average player at that position to get a list of the best 'fielders above average'. Also, Hall of Fame inductions are done only once every ten years, as a group. Owing to the fact that the game was created in 1900, the current plan is to do a class and a half in 1920 and 1930 to give players a chance to retire. Furthermore, selection is by position - a max of one player per position is eligible per hall class. If Catcher A makes it in, Catcher B is only eligible as a DH/Pure Hitter, but will of course be eligible as a Catcher in the next class. Since I'm keeping yearly replacement level batting/fielding stats for every position, I can compare players directly across eras by comparing their superiority to players of their era/position.
Anyhow. That's the preview. More info to come
