Post Need help with eLicense

Thought I was PC literate since that's what I do for a living, but didn't see any obvious info about using eLicense (in control panel).

I recently installed a 2nd operating system on my PC (Windows 2000). Win ME is so buggy, I want to make Win 2000 my primary OS (but I'll keep Win ME installed). I want to install OOTP on Win 2000. So if I install it, what are the steps I need to do to get eLicense in place on Win 2000 while leaving one of my "licenses" on Win ME.

Also, has anyone tried OOTP on Windows XP or XP Pro. The reason I ask is that Microsoft has a utility to determine what software on your PC is compatible in case you want to upgrade. Under the "might not work" category was eLicense. Has anyone tried it yet?

Under Control Panels click on E-Liscence controls. Then in the small folder panel click on the OOTP Developments folder. Then right click on the OOTP logo and select unliscence... presto... you now have all of your liscences back.

Hope this helps

1st of all, OOTP3 works great on XP. I don't believe you have to go through any special process to get your license on 2000 other than what Scott already mentioned.

Sorry, but need more help. Guess I didn't make it clear. Because I have two seperate OS's, only one runs at a time. There is no eLicense in the Control Panel for Win 2000 because I've never installed before. As for Win ME, I want to leave on of my eLicenses there so I can play in either ME or 2000. Given that, how do I get eLicense onto my 2000 OS and use one of the three (I think its three) for Win 2000 and keep one for Win ME.

Don't uninstall on ME then and install OOTP on 2000 using the same order ID. That will leave you with one license left.

Have you installed and started up OOTP in Windows 2000 yet? It should show up when you run and setup OOTP under Windows 2000

Trying running ootp in 2000(don't think you need to reinstall) and it should pop up the e-lincens. I was going to run a dual os and i think that is what i did. Since then I've formated my hd and just run 2000. Hope this helps

In Win2000 the eLicense is listed under "My Computer", not control panel.

OK, got it up and going. My problem was in finding the license #, order #, and unlicense features. I thought I had left clicked, right clicked, and double clicked everything I could find. I tried again and once I right clicked the right place, I was able to get the Order # and License #.

I then installed (for the first time in 2000) and installed it to a hard drive that both OS's could get to. Everything worked fine. Now I'm going to go back to Win ME and relocate where the installation for it is. Currently, its on a partiction that is hidden while 2000 is running (with multiple OS's, there are two partitions with each containing one of the OS's, but one partition is always hidden with the other is active). Once I have it installed in both 2000 and ME and pointing to the same hard drive, I'll be able to share the game.

Thanks for everyones help....

IatricSB, I have run OOTP3 under ME, 98se, and 2000pro and it by far runs the sweetest under 2000. I think I read it was programmed under 2000 so that must be the reason. I haven't played it under XP but since it used NT technology I would bet it runs great also.

Glad to hear that. I was frustrated by the random errors in ME. In fact, when I play OOTP I like to sim the seasons and look at the stat, so I sim several seasons each night. If I tried to sim more than 1.5 seasons without rebooting, I would eventually get an error and lose data (thats one of the reasons I put a backup feature in the Era Calculator).

I would expect it could run under XP, but from what I've read, XP Pro is a different story for some programs. I would think OOTP would be OK since it passed the "Microsoft" test, but the eLicense came up with a warning that said it may not work under XP Pro.

I'm blown away. I just simmed my first season under Windows 2000. Its jaw dropping fast compared to Win ME. The games themselves are lightning fast with just a delay at the end of the day.

I'm guessing, but I would say that a 16 team league playing a 156 game schedule would take somewhere around 9 to 10 minutes in Win ME. Under Win 2000, it took less than 3 minutes (I believe). I think I'm going to put a timer to it and see the difference. Man.... I was hoping it would run more error free, but I never expected this kind of speed increase. It almost like I went from a PII to a PIII.

Glad I'm not the only one enjoying how this game runs on 2000. I have found it the most stable operating system and hope Markus is programming version 4 on it. Iatric, I am happy you are able to sim some seasons without a slow clunky OS like winME.

Not surprisingly, I noticed a similar speed increase when I upgraded from ME to XP. I am so glad that I laid the beast that was ME to rest.

I've got a Dell Dimension PII 700 Mhz with 256 RAM. It came preinstalled with Win ME and I was never really that impressed. Now that I have Win 2000, I can't believe what I've been missing.

I have an amd duron 750mhz and 512mb sdram and it runs like a charm. I had an older computer (333mhz) when ver. 3 and on win 2000 it was always more than bearable but ever since upgrading the game runs so flawless and fast simming. I don't think the game has never delivered me a fatal error unless I try running some other resource consuming task at the same time.
