If BTS makes a Weekly Recap like this, Next Stop Rehab!
This is by far the best way to keep people interested in what happens outside of their Football team.
Summarize the week in one sports broadcasting package. I would literally simulate to watch this evolve every week. ESPN2K5 was way ahead of its time. - Mel Kiper Draft Board - Trades - Injury updates - Stats package - Key highlights - FA signings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16VZEmIFEBA Last edited by trident; 01-25-2015 at 07:59 PM. Brings back great memories! And, I wish there was a way to update that game to today's rosters...
But he's right. A show (of sorts) to recap the week's action would be a great plus to the game. Using storylines and key stats to build the show. Doesn't have to be flashy in v1 of course, but someplace to go to stay up-to-date with the happening throughout the football world. A couple thoughts:
I think this might be an opportunity to put some ideas together regarding the presentation of the game and how integrated the news and analysis work could bring in more users. Maybe not for v1, but someday soon. |

Definitely agree. The best games (Football Manager comes to mind) integrate the media experience in the game, which allows the end user to feel like they're immersed in a real life like game.
Interaction with the media, and with other GMs, the Commissioner etc would be absolutely sensational. A weekly summary show/article would be a great way to know what's going on in the game without having to search through results/stats etc. Having expert media analysis included would just be the cream on top. I think everyone would enjoy that! |

It is a good idea, but sometimes interaction in FM is very annoying. In last versions of FM is too much interaction for me. I hope, that BTS will be more balanced game in that case

I think if there are enough variable interactions included in the game, along with the expert media analysis, and possibly every now and then you get invited to participate in, say, an interview on a popular sports show or something like that, it could be really enjoyable. |

"Analysis" is a sticky wicket, as it's basically just more play by play with all the attendant issues with play by play - in order to keep it from being repetitive, somebody has to come up with lots and lots of different ways of saying the exact same thing, and that's time that, I am assuming with a brand new and very "indie" dev team, would be taken away from building the game itself.
If you want to imbue all that PBP with individualized *personality*... man, that seems like even more work. I mean, I'm not saying it can't be done, but if I were the dev, I think I'd want to make the focus of the first version on making the best actual football game they can create.

But for right now, I think an idea like this deserves merit. At this stage, where development of the game isn't fully known, and people are sharing ideas, any feature that differentiates the game concept from competitors should be encouraged. Francis might have a ton on his plate right now, but that will change someday. And when it does, topics like this inclusion will resurface. OOTP uses storylines to create an increased level of immersion and greater ownership of the baseball experience. Colorful ways of going beyond the box scores. Football is a different sort of game, but still is fed to the world through the media. Why not capture some sense of the media's involvement in our consumption of the game? |

I know OOTP has just signed a licensing deal with MLB and we are all very excited, but let us wait until at least V2 of BTS before we start signing deals with Mel Kiper, ESPN, NFL Network and 2K Games!

Interaction isn't the point of this thread. Summarizing the events around the league through a sports cast (or even a glorified powerpoint presentation) instead of going through multiple UI screens is the immersion point being made here!
It's easier and makes more sense in BTS since there are not as many games as the MLB, NHL or NBA. Weekly recaps make sense to consolidate into one report. As you get closer to year end and teams are in the basement that's when you tease the draft combine info to give teams hope for next year, etc. The narrative of the weekly recaps evolve with playoff race information etc. How this information is presented (sports broadcast, newspaper journal, whatever) will evolve as the game grows but the basis for weekly recaps being intelligent is a must for a best in class NFL / College football game. Idea 2: Weekly Previews like College Gameday in a whatever format you want too.. NFL gameday , etc Last edited by trident; 02-20-2015 at 02:13 PM. |
