Can't Substitute

Hi,

I thought I'd get my feet wet by playing a couple of exhibition games. My problem is that dragging a player from the roster screen over a player in the lineup doesn't do anything. I can't pinch hit, change pitchers, etc. The online manual says to simply drag a player over the one you want to replace.

Am I missing something obvious here?
