Can't finish a season without a crash

OOTP keeps crashing (The vista "has stopped working" window pops up) every time I get past halfway or so of a season. It's happened like 5 times for me now. It usually happens right after opening a save file. It appears the rosters might be corrupt, but becuase it usually (but not always) happens when I access the roster page) It doesn't happen consistently when doing one thing.

This is frustrating. The new version is great, but obviously I need to finish seasons. I've downloaded the 9.0.27 patch and the same thing happens.

Any help here would be great.

Answers in red below
1. What, specifically, were you doing when the problem occurred? Include the specific screen you were on when the problem occurred.
Various things. Mostly accessing the roster after a save. Sometimes just saving. Sometimes hitting "Finish today"
2. What happened? Was there an error message? If so, what was the specific message?
The program crashes and the Vista message ".. has stopped working" appears.
3. Were you able to repeat the error with this same game? With another game? If so, what steps did you take?
I've done it with 5 leagues, all started from 2008 Major League data.
4. If relevant, what do you think the program should have done?
Not Crash
5. What is your league configuration (fictional/historical, etc.)
2008 Major league data
6. Are you a Mac or PC user?
PC (Vista)

Do you get the same problem if you try a fictional league?

I'm having the same thing happen to me. Also running Vista

I have plenty of RAM (4gb)

There doesn't seem to be a rhyme of reason to the crash, Season was over, simply going day by day after the winter meetings but year has yet to roll over and the game crashes, stupid Vista not working message and now when I open the game back up I'm at July 31st again

Very irritating to say the least as you can assume.

Same Thing

I get the same thing. I've had it happen after playing a ballgame in mid august, after starting Simulate games to next Month (mid July), and right after starting the game.

Each time, it resets back to July 7th.

I suggest as noted above that each of you try to sim a fictional league to see if you have the same problems. If you don't then it is probably a problem with the MLB file. If you do then we need to look at other things.

I understand the purpose of this but this isn't like previous versions where it can be blamed on the mod. The MLB file was apart of the release which makes it part of the game. To be honest, I don't have the time, desire, patience, etc to start a fictional league which I have no interest in playing to play a wait and see approach, to see if it crashes.

I'm not trying to sound like an ass, if there was a better way of saying it, take it that way.

I am reporting an issue I am running into, if I'm the only one running into then it's my issue, if its a known vista problem or whatever then its no longer in my hands and the research needs to be done on that end of things.

I've been a loyal OOTPer since version 3 and have no plans of abandoning.
You have to understand the concern though that a game is released less than 100%

I will admit that the releases are getting increasingly better over past versions, I've just become irritable after time is spent playing a file and it crashes and half my season has to be redone.

There is my rant, good-day

whatever, if you don't want to assist me in finding a problem then that is fine.

Guys, don't you understand that he's trying to troubleshoot your problem? If the same crash happens in a fictional league, we can begin to pinpoint the problem to the engine and not to the rosters.

Rather than try to help us solve your own problem, you've turned into flaming. We're all volunteers here and are handling hundreds of requests.

A little courtesy would go a long way.

Original Poster here.

It seems the patch actually fixed it. I've started fictional and MLB seasons with the patch and haven't had a crash since (I'm sure I'll hit post here and it will crash
)

Originally, I had tried running seasons started without the patch and they crashed.

Just to make it noted, my crashes are Post-Patch

Did you create a new MLB league after patching, or did you continue using the one created with the original release?

Please do try creating a new MLB league if not in order to test it. Just go to Manager Options and turn off all of the Exit Auto-Play options. It should sim quickly.

If that doesn't work, please try doing the same with a fictional league. There are many possible reasons for crashes, and we cannot identify yours if you are unwilling to help us troubleshoot the problem.

I had a similar problem the first time I tried to play through a MLB quick start season. I use a Mac.

After starting a fictional league or three, I patched when it came out. Since my fictional leagues are misbehaving for various other reasons that have already been logged as issues, I decided yesterday to try a MLB quick start. So I started and simmed to about halfway when it crashed out of the blue. I think the last thing I had done was press the "sim the next week" option. The game seemed like it simmed a day or two and then bam, it was gone. No apparent reason at all.

Very strange and very very discouraging.

(Especially since I was managing my favorite team - the Giants, and we were still in the thick of things halfway through, Lincecum was on his way to a Cy Young, etc.)

I started another MLB 2008 game (sorry if I confused by using the words quick start - I am not referring to the Quick Start button but rather the MLB 2008 button).

I turned off all the notification, went unemployed as a manager, and set the sim running. Sure enough, it crashed halfway through the season. I wasn't eagle-eyed enough to note whether it was before, at, or after the All Star break. But it was very near that time.

My fictional leagues crash for other reasons, but not as a matter of course when reaching the middle of the season.

I hope this helps.

(Giants were WAAAAY in last place.....)

Have you tried to use the newest release: Updated ML Rosters Available! or you could try this one: Community Roster Release Thread (Links Updated Inside)

Hookay, I'll give it a try.

(Although with the grumblings about this new file over on that thread, my faith isn't particularly strong......)

success!

Indeed, the new roster file seems to have fixed this problem. I have successfully simmed an entire season twice now.

(However, as with every other game I've started in OOTP9, whenever I ask for a pitching stats report in Spring Training, it crashes.)

(I read another post elsewhere of a guy who had to save his game every time he came to 12/31 of the game year because he couldn't predict whether or not the game would crash at that point. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't. He'd been through about 4 years of this maddening procedure. As they said back in the day - hardly a way to run a railroad. I think we're all REALLY looking forward to the next patch.....)

Okay. As all of these issues appear to be addressed or logged elsewhere, I will close out this thread. If anyone needs any further help with any of this, please post in Tech Support. Thanks.
