Looking for a Database tool

I'm interested in playing with a database tool to generate some OOTP reports. I've dabbled with Access at work but don't have it at work. What do people use at home and how much does it usually cost?

I'm thinking of creating a report that will give you the standings of a specific date during the season. Retrosheet has that for major league baseball. For example, the standings at the end of Aug. 18, 2005 can be found at the bottom of this page: http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/08182005.htm

I'm also thinking of creating a chart that would graph the team's position in the standings during the year.

Thanks. That worked.

Now I know why it's not possible to view the standings of a pariticular day in a previous year - the data just doesn't exist! Aha!

Does not make it impossible though. You can examine the game results file and tabulate the standings using that.

I checked the game results file and it's only for the present year. It doesn't have it for previous years. I supposed that at the end of the season, I can append the game results file to a different table.

I know you can manually... but that's a lot of work. I'm sure someone knows how to automate it... someone, somewhere...
