Rasnell,

Try going into OOTP setup, they have a new option there to set what the seperator is, a comma or semi-colon. Change it to a semi-colon and do a new dump.

I lost the source code for this program, so I will have to re-write it.

Can you be a little more specific on where to find the csv semicolon option? Going to database/tools, I do not see that option for the CSV export.

I can't find anything in setup. Little more info, please.

EDIT: I found it; it's OOTP Preferences in main menu. I'll test.

Yep. Works with the semi-colons.

I would rather have a smaller league in years (maybe 5-10 years in length,

Let me know if you have the test data.
Some additional info just in case: Player Histories

First off, I'm not a programmer so it's very possible I'm overlooking something here.

Wouldn't it be possible to write a utility that converts the old player history over to the new format so that it could be brought over to the new game?

Line from old player text file:

Injured on 8/21/2014 with a Stiff Knee, out for one week...

Line from new player text file (same news)
:

20140821 Injured (Stiff Knee), out one week.

It would seem simple enough for a program to rearrange the order of the text lines from the old player history text file to get them into the new format. Then it would be a process of matching a player ID from the old engine with a player ID from the new (maybe using the player's name in the csv dump?).

Is it really that much more complicated than that?
I work in software, and a programmer and I looked at this today, and it seems wicked simple. Just dump the 6.5 players to CSV (players_general.csv) and do a 2006 CSV dump. Scan through both to find the old player number to tie to the new player number. Then, reformat the text from the old p1234.txt file and save it into the new player_1234_history.txt file.

The problem is that no matter how many times we have tried to do this manually, it never works!! What are we doing wrong?

At first, I thought it was the "tab" thing mentioned, but I tried that, and it didn't help.

I gave some info to Larry to look at, so maybe he can solve this. I'm not sure what could be causing this not to work manually. I really think that there will be some solution so that leagues can bring in player history...at least for active players.

Here's my stupid little utility...it ain't pretty, but it works!!

1. BACKUP THE DATA FILES!!!!!
2. Export 6.5 player data to CSV
3. Export 2006 player data to CSV
4. Unzip HISTCONV.zip to some folder on your PC
5. Run HISTCONV.EXE either through Windows or from the command line, answering the prompts for where 6.5 and 2006 are installed and what the league names are.

That's it.

It's not fancy, and it doesn't do retired players, but considering we've been told it wasn't possible, I think it was worth a day.

Bah. I just found where it's got memory problems. It will run out of virtual memory before it finishes, most likely. I'll work on fixing it tomorrow.
