I have been using the latest version of Access with no problems. I have from 1901-2012 loaded.

Well I would really really really love to use this utility, but when I open it, it asks me if I want to convert it and regardless of if I click yes or no, when it tries to open the database, it says there was an error with every form then it tells me that the entire file is corrupt. I downloaded it from PadreFan's site. Can anybody help me to use this utility???

I'm pretty sure that's where I downloaded mine as well. Not that it's at all related, but I might try downloading it again. If it gets as far as asking you about conversion, you'd think it should go the distance.

This program is fricking awesome! I can't believe I never used it before. All the coolness Cato's Win Shares and HOF monitoring without all of the hassle. Great job TJ!

I have Access 2000 and every time I've tried to download it and open it up to use it, it tells me that the file is corrupt. Where can I download this utility and that actually works for me so that I can use it. It surely sounds like an awesome program. Can anybody help me out here??

Ok, here's the latest. I downloaded the program on my computer here at work and it converted and opened up with no problems. I emailed the converted mdb file to my email address at home so hopefully I will be able to use it now. The only difference between the computer at work and the one I have at home is that at work i'm running Windows 2000 Pro and at home I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, but I don't see how that could be the problem. Anybody have any thoughts?

Hopefully it works for you now. I have Access 2007 and converted it to the new database type. It said their were errors in conversion but it worked just fine.

Just for info, I opened it with Access 2002 here at work and with 2003 at home, and chose not to convert to the new database type. Worked perfectly both times. Thats on XP btw. Good luck falkon, because this is one awesome db - can't believe I only found it this week!

Can somebody help me out with this - I had some issues I posted earlier...here's the gist of my problem...

I open the Win Shares 2007.mdb...I open the file...I see a pop up that says it's a read only database...I click OK...I don't see anything in Microsoft Access (I have Access 2000). Ideas what I should do next or what I've done incorrectly ?

Thanks !!

Renner,

I have access 2007 and when I open it up at first I see nothing. But then, right under the toolbar an option bar comes up and asks me if I am willing to bypass some security functions. I click yes and then I see the program come up as normal. I have no idea if it would be the same in 2000.

I had it working and like what i saw but now i just cant seem to get the datapath correct again. The import-export is in my documents under users\out of the park developments\ OOTP 8\blah\blah\blah. Would the program worked if i put the data import-export in a folder and simply called it "stats" under my C:\directory?
I think i must be not using Caps when is should or something but i just cant seem to get the datapath correct and simply want to make the datapath shorter.
Really would love to be able to use this program along with VORP in picking my HOF players.
I know the program works its just me getting the datapath correct.

BaseballMan, I think I can help you. Go to whatever folder you have your OOTP csv export in by going through my computer and at the top of the screen is the address line. Simply right click on the folder path and copy. It should copy your path exactly.

Then even the longest paths are easy:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\MSSoap\Binaries\Resources\1033

Hope that works.

Thanks!!!

Tysok: I know I posted in the General Discussion forum about your tool, but wanted to drop a quick post in here as well and just say how much I'm loving your utility. Although I don't use it for Win Shares (don't believe in the measurement really), I spent 3 hours last night studying 5 players that your utility highlighted using the HOF monitor, standard, and ink scores. The crazy thing is, without your utility, I would have missed a couple of them and never considered them for HOF induction. Although there is no science to HOF induction, your tool definitely gives me (and hopefully all other OOTP players) a great starting point and at least narrows the list of players to further investigate adn decide for ourselves.

thanks!

Yeah, I love this utility..its the best one I've seen so far. I've been customizing it for my needs (I hope TJ Honey doesn't mind ). For instance, I wrote a function to extract each player's retirement year from there player history. I've created a button that shows 'View HOF Eligible Players' and it only lists players who have been retired for 5 years or more (and other criteria like plate appearances and what not). And I've also added some conditional formatting to the form for their career stats to highlights if their numbers are above a certain criteria. Its awesome!!!

That sounds awesome falkonisback! Would you mind uploading your version of Tysok's db? I'd love to use it.

Well, I don't know if Tysok would want me to distribute his utility..lol. I mean, I have a bunch of custom things that I did for my solo league.

For instance, I wrote a function that goes into the Players - shrunk table and removes those nasty quotation marks around the first and last names (I hated that).

I also wrote a function that digs through all the players' history files and finds the year in which they retired.

I have a function that updates whether or not a player is even eligible for the HOF after their 5 year waiting period is up (needs a certain amount of PA's or IP for pitchers to even show up..anything less than that, I'm just wasting my time looking through their stats).

I also made my own forms to view total career stats for hitters and pitchers (dressed it up a little) as well as a form to view year by year stats for hitters and pitchers.

I came across a little problem with one of my functions with some of the recordsets coming up empty b/c if a player never won a certain award, the field would be null..I wrote a function to fill those NULLs with 0's to make it easier to work with.

I also made a separate form for hitters and pitchers that doesn't have any records at all in the awards table just for them b/c I list the total of each award that the player has won and if it didn't find any record in the awards table, the form would come up blank.

But as for me to distribute it, that would totally be up to Tysok..I mean he is the man who made the program and came up with the idea, all I did was customize it a little to my needs. But if he gives permission, I don't have a problem uploading it. On the career stats form, I do have a lable that comes up if that player is in the HOF that says 'LSBL Hall of Famer'...you might want to change that to match your own league..lol

Wow... I usually ignore this section because I don't really do anything outside the game, just this one.

I don't mind if someone wants to use your modifications, I'll even take a look at it and see about incorporating it into mine.

I'm trying to make it better, but my ability to code isn't quite up to standards. I tend to learn from taking apart one that works and then building mine in the same manner, and haven't found anything I can take apart... so I'm trying to learn through books which sucks, especially when the book sucks.

Anyhow, distribute yours too, I'm curious to see what you've done.

When I get a chance, I will post it in on here. You can just go in and take out any customizations I've done for my league (I don't think there's many). All of my conditional formatting for the career pitching stats are not there though, but that's very easily done.
