OK, I am ready to write a stadium program.

I have gathered a collection of stadiums from Padres website and have them all in subfolders. Now here is the evil plan.

Upon creation of a league, all teams have 2 default stadiums. One for day and one for night. They are the same for every team, day and night. It is called default_grass.jpg.

My plan is to leave that untouched. So, you run my program and have it running in the background. Before you start a game in play by play mode, you switch to my program and select the stadium that you want to use. My program copies it over to the ballpark folder and renames it to default_grass.jpg. So, when you start the game, you have the correct ballpark. If I am assuming correctly, when you start the game, you can then drag the positions to align them. It should remember these settings per each team.

Now, how to pick a ballpark from my program. My first thought is to read in the entire collection and let you pick from a drop down menu. You could see a preview of the park in the program.

The other thought is to have the program know what teams played at what parks during what years. Then you just pick the home team from a drop down and it will automatically get the correct one. That would be great, but it would require someone to go though this collection and create a text file that could be used. If someone wants to do that, get with me and let me work on a good layout of it.

I need some thoughts on this program.

That sounds cool! Is there anyway to get it working like LogoWatchDog? I do a lot of simming and i dont use play by play usually. I dunno if you can do this or not, but would be cool. Or just like the regular Logo one, where you select the team and select the logo, but do it for Stadiums. I know OOTP imports the stadiums automatically, just we have to enter in the filename for it.

If you pull this one off, we'll have to have a new category for utility maker awards: The Quadruple Crown (even better than Triple Crown).

No, it would not work like watchdog, as that would defeat the purpose of it.

The way I understand it, you have to go in and type in the day and night ballpark names for each team after putting them in the proper location. Then you have to drag and drop all the players on the field to put them into their proper position (left field instead of beating up a fan in the outfield stands)

Now my thought is that you never see the ballpark unless you are playing a game out at that ballpark. So, instead, we leave all the ballparks set for the default name. You have my program running and then use it to switch the default park to the one that you want to use. So, if you are playing in Detroit in 1968, you would then pick Tiger Stadium and it would copy it over and you go play the game.

Now, when you go into the game, you will have to align the position players up. (well, you can do that in the game, didn't know that, did you?) Now, in theory, it should save those settings for Tiger Stadium, so the next time you play in Detroit they will be in position.

I will write the prorgam today. The 1st version will let you pick what park you are playing at, while later versions may help you in picking, anotherwords, just select the team and the year and it will automatically copy over the correct park.

oh, well i dunno if i would use that, but good luck with it. I have a huge universe with multiple leagues and wanted a way to get every team with a stadium without having to type em in. Hopefully markus finds a way to be able to copy all the stadium info to different leagues. Like with the old park.dat and parlconfig.dat. Or be able to just put in the ballpark directory 'Arlington_Stadium_Day' and have ootp find it and use it like logos.

I don't see any issues with your approach. One more thing you may want to consider. I just added 25MB worth of fictional ballpark images today, so maybe those could be taken into consideration as well.

I got the first run of the program to work as advertised. You just find the park you want to use and hit SELECT and it copies it over. However, what I found was, since that I was able to pick from 2-4 ballparks for a certain team, I forgot which one I used last time.

So, now I will add some more buttons. A couple of different ways to use the program. One is the quick select way.

The other would be to bring up the team in OOTP and then hit EDIT BALLPARK. In my program, select COPY AND RENAME and it will prompt you for a team name. Keep it short and simple. BSN D, then go back to the game and just type in the short names you just created.

You could set an entire league rather quickly.

Here is a screen shot of the program. It will not be ready today. I am putting every ballpark by it's year in there. Gonna be very cool.

Here is a peek a boo at it..

Chugging along here. A lot of data I am setting up in here. Here is the way it is going to work.

You install and run my program and you will be shown all of the teams that played between 1901 and 2006. You click on a team name and another window will list all of the years that team played and what ballpark they played at. You click on a year and it will then download from my server the proper ballpark for that team and year.

Then if you click on USE BALLPARK, it will prompt you for a file name and you click save and it copies it over to the ballpark folder. Now the key here is for you to name it something short and to the point, so you can then change the settings in the game for this team to use this ball park. You can have 2, night and day.

So, maybe save Fenway as Fenway D, or save Fulton County Stadium as Fulton D. Now, the secret is to have both the OOTP game running and also my progam and alt tab between the two of them. (Make sure you hit ENTER after typing in the ballpark name in OOTP)

Now if you just wanted to change the default ballpark, you can hit that button and it will copy this picture over as default_grass.jpg, which is what all teams have as their default ballpark picture.

You can optionally download the 50-60 meg worth of pictures and not have to access my server to get them.

So far, only a few teams from the early 1900s have no parks. Some of the early ones are very crappy looking. If you find a better picture of a park to use, please send it to me. Please have it resized to the correct size. The idea is to have my program build the best collection of parks.

Minor league parks and fictional parks to come later.

SO far I am still setting up the ballpark database and I am in the C's, which is about 1/2 way done. Those Boston and Chicago teams were a bitch to do. After I get database done, then I write the code to let you save it and name it. Add the download options and it will go live. I estimate that I will have it before the weekend arrives, but I can never tell.

Explain a little more about how your database will remember the settings for drag-and-drop positioning if you create a later league and use these same historic ballparks again?

It won't. You have to set them all again on each new league. Not my design there. It remembers it for that league, anyhow.

The 1st version is not (now - stupid forum gremlin) available to try.

http://www.planetootp.com/AUballpark/

MUST USE IE TO INSTALL

Install the program and then when it runs, click on the BROWSE button and locate your BALLPARK folder: (mine is located here)

C:\Documents and Settings\Larry\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\ballparks

Now just click on a team in the list. All teams from 1901 to 2006 are listed here. In the top window, all of the ballparks for this team will be shown. Click on one and the ballpark will be shown. If you want to use this ballpark, then click on the SAVE AS ... button.

The name is the actual name it is stored on my server as. You can change this as you see fit. I would go with a shorter name, and come up with some kind of naming convention that is easy for you to use. Like the 1st three letters then a D or N designation for day time or night time. Make it easy on yourself, as you have to type this name into the ballpark editor built into the game. You can have a day and a night ballpark.

With my program, most parks are listed with a day and a night park, if it was a park that was played at during the night. If there is no night park, then pressing the night check box has no effect. Note that you MUST select the night check box before you click on a team.

If you have a better ballpark to use, please e-mail me it at webcomedian@msn.com. Please make sure you tell me what the name of the park is and what year(s) it is from.

If you find any wrong parks listed here, let me know. The program is designed so that I could put in as many different parks as I want for each team.

As you update the program, don't forget to add a help screen that includes all of your details above. Thanks for doing this. Going to be just as nice to have as the logos and photos utilities.

Is anyone able to get night photos to work in the game editor? I thought this was going to be fixed in the patch.
