A little hiccup in my life here, as I woke up Sunday morning and decided to clean my CPU heat sink. I could not boot after that. I ended up having to go get a replacement MB and went ahead and picked a very nice case with the CompUsa logo on the box. 79 bucks for the case with a 500 watt power supply and 7 bays!!
, I've done this myself before. A fun experience as I'm sure you know. I'm planning to play with HOF further, just been caught up with things.

Cheers,
Mark

This is a very complex program, with all of the formulas in it. Right now, it is not a complete program. It does not create the 'final result' yet. I am very close to adding that code, hopefully by the end of the weekend.

What I need tested is for any errors when the program is ran. I think I have trapped all of them, so I should be ok in that aspect, but more important, is the rating system. I did not tweak the numbers very much, as far as hits, homeruns, etc. I basically went to BF and took a look at the career leaders in each category and set it up based on that.

However, since the HOF requirements for 2005 differ than for 1902, that is where I need the most help. Edit the config file and then see how the HOF points look. Then save the config file under a different name using the save as button. Give it a name to reflect the year you are playing in and send me that file. I would like to have a few to cover the 100 years of baseball.

This is a busy week for me so far, so I do not expect to work much on the program this week, throw in the factor that I am having to reinstall apps on the pc, then throw in the fact that I am getting random reboots. I think I may have solved the reboot problem, but because of it, I am only running 1/2 meg of ram. Now I have to dig up some money to buy more memory! Crap!

Lack of community support has once again put this on the back burner.

Even the newsletter. I have discontinued it, due to people just not getting involved with it. This prorgam in particular required feedback from people, on the way the results were being displayed.

I did not get any. I just had a bunch of people that sat around waiting for me to complete it.

I am sorry to say that I have lost faith in the OOTP community as a whole. With my logo program, I asked people to send me their logo collections. I logged in and saw many people ask the logo makers to make logos for them. I watched as they made logos for entire teams. I then watched as I requested many times for you to send me your collection. To take 5 minutes to zip up your league collection of logos and send them to me. How many did this? None.

I then created, what I thought was the ultimate photo organizer program for OOTP. I spent many hours creating a website to collect these photos. I asked people to send me photos that were not in this collection, as I was going to maintain them on this site. So we could build the ultimate collection for everyone to use. But then again, I stressed that I would need help here. I was not going to spend my days scouring the forum to find the new photos that people posted. I asked them to check my site and if the photo was not there, send me the photo. Zip. Not one person sent me even one photo.

Just as a test, I did not check the mod forums since July to see if I was correct. I thought that maybe people would notice that I had not posted anything in forums and ask why. It took almost three months for someone to post something. My MSN and my e-mail is available for all to see, but I never had one inquiry.

Basically, it looks like I am headed towards to the same place Cato went to. And it was not by my choice.

Comedian,

I rarely post but read the forums all the time and have participated in online leagues for about 4-5 years. I believe you have supplied a great amount to the community and commend you for that. As a programmer, I understand all the effort that goes into creating the mods you have made.

Let me offer a few criticisms now. Please don't take offense to any of my comments. They are only my opinion.

1) Lack of one central seamless vision. Over your time on the forums, you have started numerous projects with suggestions of adding this and that. Many of these projects simply died and failed to go further. Personally, I came to expect that this. (A great idea and proof of concept but never actually finishing the product). I think dividing the end users over numerous topics was part of the perceived loss of interest. It was simply difficult to follow progress over multiple threads. In my opinion, you would have enjoyed more of a following if you managed to consolidate everything into one utility.

2) You obviously enjoy praise. Who doesn't like to hear a few kind words now and then. But, your constant ramblings for donations and mandatory sign ups for newsletters are simply put, a turn off. You should do this because it's interesting to you. If it isn't, then it's time to pull the plug (which it seems you have).

Best of luck in whatever you do.

John

I am disappointed in this news. I for one have had a lot going on in my life that has prevented me from having the time to respond and since the last time I responded and also gave you a lot of good feedback via this forum and via the numerous phone calls when there were situations that came up with your programs. I use your programs everyday and really wanted to see this program take off. I was under the impression that you were working on updating your programs and waited for you to let us know when the updates were done so i could take the time to test and get back to you..

One more thing, as some of us know you have been a part of the beta testing team and with all the changes and news of the split with SI and also the fact that the patch will be out soon, I for one thought that the reason you had not done any updates was that were were very busy testing the new patch and were going to wait till it was complete to finish your utilities

I'm sorry that you feel that way Comedian b/c you have some really great ideas and your utilities are awesome. I use HistoryHint all the time, its great and lets you revisit your leagues past while waiting for stuff to load up. I would have loved to try out the HOF utility b/c I think it would be better for guys to have to wait 5 years before entering the HOF like they do in real life. And having a list to choose from of everyone who is eligible for any given year, that's just genius. I think this utility needs to be incorporated into next's years version of OOTP. I would have sent you logos, but my logos are just the generic logos that you could download from PadreFan's site. I mine, I could send them to you, but you could easily get them from that website and I'm sure you probably already have all of those logos. I wish you wouldn't give up on the community, but if you decide to, then good luck to you and all that you do.

I don't think that's just an issue with Larry's stuff. Such is the nature of the beast that you come up with ideas and how to implement them and quite often it doesn't fit in with how the other mods have worked.

I'm guilty of doing it as well, I come up with ideas of things and start working on them and then other things come along and they fall by the wayside and then a few days later something else pops into my head.

At least in one way, Larry is being brutally honest in saying what he did. There have been other people who have said they will definitely be doing things and then disappearing never to be heard of again (1st basemen at the Cardinals for example).

I sort of didn't really have a gameplan when I started writing stuff for 2007 but hopefully if I get accepted on the 9 beta team, as well as doing what is required, would be able to get a head-start on rewriting the stuff for version 9 (as I work on the .dat files rather than csvs, they should be less susceptible to massive changes during the process), but in a sense hopefully Markus and co take on board a few of the suggestions I've made which would then make these developments a moot point.

Well Larry, I did try the program and it didn't do anything close to what you described it to do. I said as much in this thread and you told me to reply to your newsletter. Which I did and you never replied back. So, it's not just the people who got the newsletters who failed to get into it. It's cool though. I thought the idea sounded great and I applaud your willingness to create programs for the community. Sorry that we didn't pat you on the back enough for your liking.

Larry was working on the HOFPoints when he got mad at the OOTP community and decided to no longer make mods for it. I can't get the access thing to work either so I'm also looking for a better way to do my own HOF.
