I think the biggest downfall is that I have had so many hints of what a player does against a minor league team IE 5 for 5 or 5 for 6...Just this morning I had 6 hints in a row with the above said problem. Other than that it is a great program

I think I have solved the problem. The problem was that the line of history that stated that the player went 5-6 did not contain what league he was in, like the awards or the other items that are pulled from the player's history. So, it could be in the history file for the player, even if the player is a major league player now.

So I had to be trickey. I searched the line for the team number and then check an index to see if this team was a MLB team or a minor league team. If it was a minor league team, and the no minor history is checked, it will skip it.

You will see minor league teams in there, like scoring 10 runs in a game, etc. That may be a little harder to remove, due to the league information is NOT contained in that file I get that information from. I would have to look up each game number in another file and check the team numbers and that could slow the routine down.

I created a fictional league with full minors and it seems to work here, so let me know if it solved the problem.

I will be patching the program today before I leave to go see DEEP PURPLE and EDGAR WINTER and here is a couple items I added:

Pitchers that have thrown 3 or more 1-hitters in their career.
Pitchers that have thrown XX or more 5 hit shutouts in their career.
Players that have hit more than 2 cycles in their career.
Batters that have collected more than XX batter of the month awards in their career.
Record for most hot dogs eaten when the teams had a hot dog eating contest for the crowd.

I also will add player of the week, and pitcher for the month/week totals.

The XX mean they have options to set, to control how many there are that get shown.

NOTE: The save option will not save the new parameters as of this moment. I will change that later.

Been a little preoccupied, but finally found time to read through the thread very quickly. Looks great, and even better that it still allows you to add your own to the text file and remains customizeable. Hope I get a chance to try this out this weekend.

Does this completely replace the existing in-game hint.txt, or simply supplement it?

It does completely overwrite the existing hint file, but now that you mention that, I could add the option to append to it, but, I have to be careful there, as it could create duplicate entries.

Maybe I will add an option instead to import a text file into it after you run my program. However, that could create issues with the file being too large. I am trying to find out if there is a limit to how big it can be and if there is a max size that could hamper the speed of the ootp game, but I have yet to get an answer.

The concert is not until next Friday. Duh...

I just added a cool tidbit. It totals the player's injuries up in his career. This is going to be an estimate, since it is based on loose information. If it says he was injured 12 months, it will add 48 to the total (which is now a WEEK total). If it says that 5-6 months, it will just use the 5 and add it. If it says 3 weeks, it will add 3 weeks. If it says 5-7 weeks, it will use the 5. It ignores the day to day injuries.

If the total is greater than 25 weeks, it will add it saying something like this:

It is estimated that Joe Kelly has spent 36.3 months injured.

I will add an option to change the default 25.

I also changed the layout to look a little cleaner.

Keep in mind that if there is something that you do not want displayed, like extra inning games, just set that option to a high number that won't get reached, like 100 or whatever I have the max set at.

OK OK OK , what are you a mind reader also. I just finished and exited my game and was getting ready to write you and let you know I was so tired of the 5 for 5 games and I restarted your program and lo and behold there is a prompt to ignore 5 for 5 entries, now does this cover 5-6 games...LOL

People do you all understand that Larry has a real job, them comes home and writes all these great utilities and from what I read a lot of you love and use his programs. So how many of you have sent him any donations for all the hard work he does. I have and you should too.

Ask yourself how much do his utilities enhance the way you play the game. I have had many a conversation with Larry and have suggested that he charge a one time fee and you get access to all his programs and all the updates. He could even allow people demo versions of all his programs...

I for one would send him a fee for the unlimited use of all his programs. Lets hear what you think about this idea

Just started the program and there was a new update, downloaded it and the program started, noticed the new logo at the bottom and then as I ran the program I got another error message and can't run the program

I think I fixed the errors that were reported.

PLEASE.. if you get an error, let me know what the error is and more important than that, let me know what you did that caused the error.

Was it when you loaded the program or after you hit start?

If it was AFTER you hit start, then let me know what routine it was on when it did it. Restart the program and and click DEBUG to get more details. The blue bar status tells you what it was doing. Otherwise I have to figure out though thousands of line of code what crashed.

Also let me know the month and year your season is in. You can quickly find that by running my app and looking at the title bar at the top.

Just to let you know what this was, I had added a recent routine that told you what the most runs in an inning was. Like 11 runs in the 1st, 9 runs in the 2nd, etc. The error was caused if you ran it during the offseason AFTER Feb, but before the games were played. So, since my season is in July, I did not get the error. I cannot possibly try every single scenario after I add a new option.

On another side note. Keep an eye out for the runs per inning thing. I have never seen more than 11 runs in one single inning and I am wondering if it is an error on my part or if there is some kind of cap there, like when 11 runs are reached, the next batter(s) will strike out or something to prevent that from happening.

i'm now getting an error when I try to run this program on my computer. Weird thing is i have had no trouble running it until a couple of days ago.

Those are one of those odd errors that users get on occasion. It is something to do with the way the application is deployed. Try going to the control panel and under add/remove programs, locate it and then install it.

Head to the website using IE and install it again. (See page one of thread for link). Let me know if this solves the problem and I will research it and see if I can see another solution.

After you uninstall it, please reboot the computer before you try installing it again. Sorry for the problems. And thanks for reporting it.

When I am in a streak, I update the program quite a bit, so it could be any thing that I have added since you last ran it successfully. I am thinking that I added a math routine a few days ago for some math functions I needed and that may be the culprit.

Since I am here, I added a few more tidbits (surprised?). Some you may never see appear in your league, but if you do, you sure will be surprised! I added a few more options and I removed the really cool looking buttons and replaced then with a menu bar. While the buttons were easier to use, I needed the screen real estate.

I also added the ability to merge in a text file. It does no checking, so use at your own discreation. One thing to keep in mind is the game only supports hint lines that contain 256 characters or less. I am not sure what happens if they are longer, if it will crash or just trunacate it. I will test that one day.

I also added the ability to sort the list. It does not save it in sorted format, since that is meaningless, but it will help you find what options you want to disable because of too many items.

Another item I added is a quick way to load the hint.txt file into your default text editor. So, after you use my program you can use this option and then remove any lines that you want to. Then save it back. Note that the saved version is not loaded into my program. Once again, there would be no need to do that.

If uninstalling and reinstalling does not work, remove this folder:

Uninstall the app again, the downside is that you will have to install all my other apps that you use. (It will not remove data folders, settings, photos, etc. and it will have no bearing on OOTP or Window XP)

Click on your Windows START button and select RUN.

Paste this in there and hit OK

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Apps

Then delete the folder that is located there. Reboot and then install again.

Then let me know. According to MS, some files somehow got corrupt. The posts that I have read showed that this solved most issues, either the 1st step or the 2nd step.
