Slow performance

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but my sim performance is apparently far slower than other individuals'.

I am running on a Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop, 1.8 ghz Pentium M w/ 512 mb RAM. I've tried rebooting and closing all other programs, but sim speed remains very slow (~10-15 seconds per day in the *offseason* -- full, default baseball universe, no box scores or game logs being stored). I've seen others with moderately similar systems say they can simulate one year in about 2 minutes, so I'm disappointed in my performance.

I realize I don't have a ton of RAM, but I didn't think 512 had got completely obsolete yet.

Update: also meant to include that at the end of each day, the program is choppy and unresponsive. It's very difficult, for example, to get an effect from hitting "Stop Auto-play"
