photo problems player # over-riding player name
Converted my photos to jpg and put them in game. Found you had to rename photos from p###.xxx (old ootp naming style) to player_###.jpg
Put them in the game along with my named photos. example Mark_Prior.jpg Before puting in the numbered photos Prior's card had his picture. After puting in the numbered photo he now had someone else's picture from my numbered face pack. So as the title says numbered photos appear to over riding named photos making it almost impossible to have a real league that transforms to a fictional one over time with the real players having their own photos. Of course in the old versions any photo with a name over rode any numbered photos. Hopefully can be added to the first patch as I would assume this is an easy fix? |

Old version you could have a photo pack with both numbered and named photos mixed in the same folder ie... player_1234.jpg and Joe_Ballplayer.jpg. When the game went to get a photo for a player it would first search for one with a name. If it found a named photo is used it, if it did not find a named photo it would then look for a numbered one. This allows you to use real player photo packs and numbered photos for fictional players that come into the league as the years go by. In my case I used Mark Prior as an example though I have more than just him with the problem. In my folder I have a photo named "Mark_Prior.jpg" that was showing up in the game. I then added numbered photos into the game so everyone could have a photo, I did not overwrite or remove the named Prior picture. Now when I open Prior's card I get a photo that is not him but from the numbered set. So, what I believe is happening is the photo he has now matches his player ID #.. Mark Prior has a player ID#..." player_1234" there is a photo named ......."Mark_Prior.jpg" and a photo numbered ........."player_1234.jpg" The game should find and use the "Mark_Prior.jpg" before searching for the numbered "player_1234.jpg". Unfortunatly it appears it is now using the numbered photo even if a named one is available. Hope that longer explanation makes it clear. Thanks for responding to my issue Marc. |

On the flipside---
Would it also be true then that I can use a player photo set in the named fashion above, convert the joe_shaltbotnik.jpg to player_#.jpg using something like irfanview or other maybe a quick incrementor and use 'real' player photos in a fictional league?
I'm assuming the range should be something like 1 to how ever many files? Would it be 0001 or 1 (assuming 1 since the db is tighter?). Also - how 'random' is ID assignment... i.e., how do I ensure that the photos are are used by major league player IDs first as opposed to say... some scrub rookie baller? |

In my league I d'loaded sets of real players from the 50's-90's and ran them through batchthumbs ( I use irfanview now). Ended up with player_001-5000 (actually in older versions it was p_001-5000). So in my league my all-star catcher looks a whole lot like Sal Bando I like this system as it makes it easy to identify with players. Like real life I begin to know the guys in my league by their face. Boston's firstbaseman reminds me of Vada Pinson while my nubmer one pick of 6 years ago, that washed out, looks like Willie Mays.As far as this new version I can't asnwer your questions. I believe SI is going to come out with another manual (after the first patch and things start to calm down?) on how to mod the game. Hopefully we will be getting answers to these questions there. |

I'm running a fictional league and renamed about 3,000 pictures to be player_###.jpg and copied them into the html/images folder for my league, but I still only see either the default player on the player report or the team's logo on the player logo. I couldn't get something like your example of Mark_Prior.jpg to work either. Is there a box in the game somewhere I need to check someplace to update the photos?

Starting a fictional league. I couldn't get player_### working . If I rename them using players name they worked, but with player_### numbers no way.
Well I exited the game and reloaded and there they were !!! Last edited by skeetz; 06-03-2006 at 07:45 PM. |

When you say "renamed" I assume you mean you did a batch conversion? What program did you use to do the conversion? I have used Paint shop pro, and irfanview at different times with various versions of oopt without a hitch. |

I used irfanview which was a breeze. Now I'm wondering if it's because of the number of players in game. I looked at my database for a season I quick simmed for 20 years and it says I have 9000+ players. I only put in 3000 photos, so maybe that's just not enough.
Also, if I rename one of the photos to a players name like joe_schmoe.jpg, it works immediately without restarting the game. But with the numbers I'm getting the team logo instead of even the default player photo. Very weird. Does anyone know how to find out what the player numbers are? I know you're supposed to be able to export them some how, but I couldn't figure it out... |

Go to Game --> Game Setup, select the League Setup tab, and then click Import/Export --> Export Rosters at the bottom of the screen. It'll generate a txt file in your .lg directory.

Well that solved it for me. A vast majority of the player numbers were higher than the 3,000 I have in there. When I found a player in the list with a number less than 3,000 - sure enough, his picture was there.
Ah well, looks like I need a lot more photos... |
