Pitcher usage in blowouts.

Giants starting pitcher gave up 7 runs in 2+ innings, and a reliever came in for him in the 3rd. Reliever gives up 1 run in the third, but finishes the inning.

The Giants brought in another relief pitcher in the fourth inning, who then proceeds to take one for the team by throwing 171 pitches and giving up 10 runs.

Although I think the problem should be manifest from the images I'm uploading, let me dispense with the suspense:

McIver is the Giants' closer, so having him throw 6 innings and over 170 pitches in one outing is bad enough. The really good news for his personal trainer's job security is that he had just had a 1.2 IP, 43 pitch day the previous day.

I don't know if the Giants just don't have a mopup role set, or what, but it seems like they could do better than to pick their closer, with an endurance rating of 6, to "take one for the team."

i've noticed that closers are used as the primary mop-up pitcher if you don't have one set. however i've never seen one throw that many innings like that. if you "ask the coach" for a pitching rotation setup, it will fill the four middle reliever slots before it spills over to the mopup slot. if all AI use this setup, that's a problem IMO

And who said only hitters are on the 'roids

Where can my real life team find a rubber arm like that? Today's modern game with it's sissy pitch count limits are ruining the game. Baseball needs more McIvers!!!

You wanna know what's funny?

OOTP crashed on me two game days later (I hadn't saved recently), so when I reloaded, it went back to the day of that game.

I managed it again.

We knocked out Candelairl in the 2nd inning instead of the 3rd this time, and Camardiel pitched 1 1/3 innings, again leaving after the 3rd.

So here comes McIver, Groundhogging it, and this time manages to complete his six inning stint in "only" something like 110 pitches. Walked 2 guys instead of 9. Maybe next time he can go 6 pitches per inning and get it done in 36 or so.
