Players Not Going To Team
I have noticed that, since I've reached the 1950s and beyond, there are several teams that have changed location whose prospects are no longer going to their teams. They are, instead, going to the FA pool. I did not notice this until 1961, as I was doing the first big expansion for the league and noticed a handful of players not on their teams who had just come into the league. It's not a ton of guys, just a handful. It's not the players going to the expansion teams, I already know they need to be put onto their team by hand.
In 1962, it seems to be effecting more teams, all of whom have moved locations (baltimore, milwaukee, LA Dodgers, SF Giants, Twins, etc) . All the team abbreviations are correct as far as I can tell. Not sure if this is a bug or if it's something I'm overlooking. Thought it was worth posting, though. |

This is not a bug but something that some folks overlook when trying to sim a stretch of history where teams were added or moved or both. These changes in the league structure need to be manually adjusted by the user.

First, make sure you are changing their names historically accurately and at te right years. You can open up the Lahman Database and take a look at the teams.csv file to get the names and abbreviations correct. If all is done properly, the players should import to their actual teams.

On the Team Options and Ballpark screen, make sure you have the Team's Historical abbreviation correct. It needs this in order to put the imported players on the right team.

I can almost 100% say for sure your problem is as the others pointed out.
The spot I circled in red is what determines how the database is read and if you are assigning rookies to their real teams it must correspond to what the database has for that year. The abbreviation field can have what ever you want and does not affect the database import. It is for what displays on the player pages. So if you prefer to see NYY instead of NYA you can make the abbreviation to NYY and keep the historical id at NYA and Yankee rookies will still be assigned to the team.
