Boxscore Issue

Ok, here is the scenario. I have a fairly large universe of leagues but really only want to track the career of one player. I figured I would simply set the recordboxscores to "all human organizations" and follow along his career. I was in commisioner mode "acting as" the Minnesota Twins who were the parent club of the character I was following.

After simming a few games I noticed that if I was a commisioner "acting as" a team, the game did not record the boxscores, effectively not recognizing the Minnesota Twins, who I was 'acting as", as a human team.

OK, I figuired to myself, I guess I have to take a job in the Twins organization somewhere so that I can at least record boxscores. I take a job with the A ball team and then sim some more games only to discover that although I have set boxscores for "human organizations", it still isn't recording the boxscores.

From later fiddling about I discovered that it will record boxscores if I set it to "all leagues" regardless of whether I am acting as commisioner or take a manager job somewhere. It also works if take the GM job as the Minnesota Twins.

This was a bit of a surprise. I would think if I have a job in the Twins organization, that I should be able to record boxscores for all games within that organization without being a GM. Also, it would be nice if I am Commissioner, "acting as" a team, the CPU should recognize me as a human and record the boscores accordingly. This only makes sense since the computer will record all boxscores if i set it to "all leagues" regardless of whether I have a job or not as GM/manager.

My questions are:

1) Is this the way the game is supposed to work or is this a bug?

2) Am I missing something and can actually achieve what i want?

OK...just so I'm clear...when you're in "commissioner mode" and you're "acting as" a team, you're not the GM/manager of that team? If that's the case, the game doesn't see that team as a human team because all the decisions are still done first by the game's AI.

If you want the box scores of just the human teams...and you want the Twins to be that team...then you need to be the GM/manager of the Twins.

Now, if you were GM and well as commissioner then it might be a bug.

1) I think this is the way it's supposed to work. When you Act As, the game doesn't see you as Human, it's just letting you play God. He's not human. And the game retains its free will.

2) Don't think you're really missing anything either. Human organization is defined, IMO, as an organization GMd by a Human, so the game handled that correctly as well. Again, IMO.

My The only real confusion I STILL have is what the differences are in that darn news configuration on the Manager's Home Page: what you want to subscribe to. Some options, I understand. Others? I'm still not getting it.

Just to clarify, boxscores were saved fine when I was GM of the Twins but if I took a manager job in the minors, it doesn't save all the boxscores within the whole organization (which i figured it should).

As for the others, i figured the commissioner thing and "acting as" probably worked that way but wanted to confirm.

It's not a big deal anyways because I just save the box scores manually that I want (since I am following the career of a certain pitcher) so I guess I can just delete the remainder of the box scores that I don't need. (I have a lot of leagues so if I choose to save boxscores for everything, the league file becomes very big very fast).

Could you take the job as a GM of the Twins, set the AI to control everything in the case that you're on vacation, then go on vacation, and it would save the box scores for you?
Never tried it, don't know what it would do... but that could be your fix if you just want to be god (not interfere in the dealings of those mere mortals) but want the box scores saved only for the Twins.

I'll try it and see if it works.

One other question, if I go on vacation as the Twins GM, would that mean that no trades happen within the organization or is there a way to basically let the AI handle everything while I am gone including trades?

If not, this is why I am reluctant to be the Twins GM if my objective is to let the universe unfold without my intervention.

I'm sorry for the awfully slow response to this thread.

Obviously, some time has passed since you posted this issue, and the 1.0.2 patch has since been released as well.

It seems like most of your concerns here have been addressed. Please let me know if there's anything else...

Thanks,

Steve

We have a rule that states that Tech Support threads wherein we have not received a response within 7 days will be closed.

This one meets this criteria, so I'm closing this.

If you want to discuss it again, just PM me with the thread link, and I'll re-open. (Don't just say "Hey, reopen my thread." I need to know the URL, thanks!)
