Still Crashing (from previous thread)

From the now-closed, prepatch thread:

I'm having crash issues, too. I'm stuck on April 23 of my season. I've autoplayed all of the games for that day, but when I click the Continue icon, the game crashes with that "OOTP2006.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close" message.

I'm running WinXP on a Dell, and I've patched. Everything else seems to be fine, too; just can't get past this day. (That is, I can access the rosters, transactions, anything else.)

I just disabled the ticker, and I changed the skin back to ootp blue, but no dice.

----------

I ftp'd my data, and have not yet heard anything, but of course you guys have had a lot on your plate lately.

I installed the second patch, and no change. I went back in today and disabled the ticker, then tried to Continue to the next day. And I got an interesting message that I don't think I've seen before...

"Error in order defense, part 1"

Not sure what that means. Every game for this particular day has been completed; it just won't move on over to the next day. Any help appreciated, as always.

DanF,

I gave this it's own special TT #, 2137.

Are you able to replicate this bug by creating a new league? Or, is it only an issue with this existing one?

Thanks!

Steve

Created a new league today and simmed it all the way through the regular season with no problems, so I suppose it's an issue with just that one league.

I'd prefer not to have to recreate a league, because if I do it'll be the second redo this year... But I dunno what else to do.

Well, it's good to know, at least, that the game isn't completely unplayable for you.

Like you said, you've already sent in your league, and we have an individual TT for this now, and we'll see what happens.

Thanks,

Steve

Well, I ftp'd the file back on July 4 or thereabouts as requested in this thread: Are you experiencing lots of crashes?

Do you need me to resend it?

It wouldn't hurt to resend it, and let us know the name of the file. We've gotten a lot of league files...

Sorry for the confusion.

It appears to be right where I ftp'd it and won't let me overwrite the old one.

Sorry battists, it's Microleague06.lg.zip.

(At least I assume it's there - I can't see it, but when I tried to move the file over a little while ago I got an error message that seemed to imply I was trying to overwrite.)

OK, I was finally able to get the file. Thanks for your patience. Unfortunately, at this point it's still a problem.

Hopefully I can talk to Markus about this tomorrow...

Thanks!

You mean the latest patch? I haven't done the 1.0.2 patch yet. I'll try that when I get home today (I didn't want to muck up any repair work you might be doing on the files I sent you earlier.)

Please go ahead and try it with the latest 1.0.2 patch, and let's hope this is addressed...

Thanks!

Ok, weirdness. But not necessarily bad.

When I go to continue past this day that's been giving me trouble, I now get the following fun message:

Augusta has an illegal number of pitchers (less than 3) on the active roster! (25)

Augusta's not in my league. I found it in one of the minor leagues, and sure enough, there was all of one (1) pitcher on the roster.

I offered some random contracts, but I realized that it takes a day for the player to mull 'em over. So I dunno now.

Actually, as I look around that league (South Atlantic League), I see just about every team has just "Joe Smith" on the staff.

DanF,

I don't mean this in a "you should give up" way, but how much work has gone into this league to date?

It's been my personal experience that leagues created in more recent versions tend to be very stable. IF you don't have a tremendous amount of time invested in the league, I would probably suggest giving another league a try...

Just a thought. I'm off on vacation for the next week, and wanted to leave you with something relatively productive!

Well, I've already restarted it once... I could redo it again.

I got it to work.

I kept getting that error message that said Team X had only three pitchers. So via the Game Setup menu, I filled all of the teams in that league with fictional players. Then saved it. Then Continued. No go - another team. Did this back-and-forth, fill-and-save until all of the leagues were taken care of (I tried doing each league and then saving, but that didn't work).

Then, finally, hit Continue. And it works!

So I think the patch solved the problem, for the most parrt.
