A Really Weird Problem...

I am just past the start of my second season with the Rolen17 opening day roster and after 24 games I have the weirdest problem.
I opened the game yesterday and went to my roster screen and all but 2 players on all of my rosters, as well as every roster in the league were filled with a guy named Joe Smith. Every team in the league had 20-23 Joe Smiths on their team! I mean what happened to the rest of my players? They aren't even on the free agent list, they're just gone. I'm baffled and more than a little upset on this one... Any ideas on how this happened and if I have to start from scratch again?

Did you use an alternate name file for your draft?

No, as far as I know I didn't do anything out of the ordinary on any of it. Just started the season and everything was going fine until the unfortunate incident described above. I'm totally stumped. A couple of game days before the problem there was the rookie draft pool that had just come up, but it wasn't time for the draft or anything. ?

Are you using the most recent patch on OOTP? 1.03xxxxblahblahblah?

Yep, I have the most current patch loaded. I think I may be resigned to the fact that I will lose my game. I'm totally bummed.

Hmmm. We saw some similar problems in the very early releases of the game. It sounds like something is messed with your names.dat file. Do you happen to have a backup of the names file from when you started the league?

Is is possible you are using an older version of the roster set?

Hmm, I don't mind the lecture and yes you are right, it is DEFINITELY a lesson learned for me. I didn't backup anything as I was very psyched about getting the game going and starting up. Haven't played OOTP since the 04 version and I guess I was in too big of a hurry to set things up properly. So I guess this means I'm SOL huh? My own fault I guess. Thanks for the help! I'm pretty sure it was an up to date roster as well... So for future reference I should back everything up then? Lol I guess that most people would do that right out of the gate. Lesson learned.
