AI making subs i don't want!

hey all,
i've been managing my current league and notice that while in the late innings of any given game, the AI usually makes some dumb substitution i don't agree with. -and I have the options set in the game for ME to handle lineup changes.
for example, tonight we were in the 8th inning and the AI decided to take my right fielder (and best hitter) out and replace him with my backup center fielder who has a rating of 4 in right field.
they also removed my thirdbaseman and stuck in my backup thrid baseman even though he bats lefty and there was a lefty on the mound.
this is REALLY frustrating when you're trying to manage your bench (playing with no DH) and all of a sudden two of your subs are burnt up. -then you have to use MORE subs to correct the problem or live with it and lose the game.
i had this same problem in spring training games. i was hoping it'd fix itself when the season started, but no such luck.
is there something i'm missing here?
fyi, the lineup controls ARE set to AI when i start each game, but i change them all to ME before starting the game.

For the Tech Support folks- Frogger has solved this issue (it was because he was playing in Commissioner mode, and was 'Acting As' a team, and wasn't hired as GM), as noted in this thread:
