Lineup substitution screen finicky-ness

In my no-DH fictional league, I am making a double switch in a close game after using my backup catcher as a PH in the eighth. I put the new pitcher in in the #6 spot and then absent-mindedly set the #9 spot defensive position to P, then realize my mistake and switch it to C and set #6 to P. Whatever.

Game ends. On the recap, I see this:

Smith PH, P, C.

He never even warmed up on the mound; he was a pitcher only for two seconds on the lineup card before being scratched out in error! Only in OOTP is a manager stuck with the mistakes he makes on his lineup card before he even leaves the dugout!

This is probably just another sub-problem of the main one: stuff that you do on that substitutions screen should be correctable, undo-able, until you hit a final "OK" button. It would be nice to have the option to list and confirm changes too. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a small graphic of the defense with ratings and colours so you can see easily when you've got someone in the wrong spot.

I've bought up this subject a number of times, including in version 2006, but since the game apparently is used mostly by simmers who aren't effected by this, it doesn't seem there is much interest in fixing this.

It seems people who actually play the game don't matter.

I decided after buying and playing this version for a while that only 2 things would cause me to purchase any future versions, since this one has everything I ever wanted in a game, plus a few things I never thought about that are nice.

1: Something new is added that is totally impossible to resist, which doesn't include cosmetic things like sound or graphics, or

2: Some of the irritating issues, such as the one mentioned in this thread, are fixed.

This bugs me too. What I do is before I make the substitutions, I set the position as "-" (bottom of the list of positions). Then once all the players I want to Double Switch are "-", I then make the position changes.

Does this make sense?

It does, and that's also what I do when I play out games.

Though I'm one of the 'simmers' (mostly) that Styx describes above, I'd also like to see this fixed. It is certainly a bit annoying when it happens, and it seems things would work more smoothly if the boxscore were only updated once the user had left the lineup screen.

And I do think that 'people who play the game' are important to the game's designers, considering how much work has gone into the play-by-play (to take one example). Gameplay certainly isn't perfect (and nor is simming), which is something I can certainly accept from a game that offers as much variety and sophistication as OOTP. There were several suggestions about improving the play-by-play experience in the Suggestions forum, so perhaps there will be some additional improvements in next year's version. I'd hope that anyone with good suggestions for improvements will post there (and they're closing up the suggestions threads soon)- after all, we will all benefit next year from improvements arising from the suggestions made this year.

Check the fielding stats of players you put in initially in the "-" position and you will see they have the "-" listed as a defensive position played, another issue I have bought up a number of times.

I was told by someone "in the know" that the lineup thing is by design...once you put them in the lineup, they are announced, which tells me they aren't planning on changing it. So, if you accidentally put someone in the wrong slot, they are announced. No take backs, no plans to make take backs possible.

Really? Well, that's not good. I had assumed the game worked that way because it was more convenient to program it as such, and not because of an intentional design decision. The game should be smarter about this kind of thing.

Could you guys please list these sorts of suggestions in the Suggestions forum at the link below?

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...lay.php?f=3700

I realize that you have some frustrating concerns, but I do believe that they are design-related and not bugs, per se.
