Retired Players Disappear

In my sim league (www.hblbaseball.com), we converted to OOTP2007 after the 2022 season. Finished the 2023 season with OOTP2007 and we're now 2 months into May of 2024.

I went to my history section on the website and noticed that everyone who retired after 2023 is gone. They are not showing up on the career leaderboards or in the player registers. This is in-game as well.

Any ideas?

Ouch, nothing? This could be the end of one of the longest running sim leagues around...unless I'm missing something obvious?

Maybe someone can tell me if this scenario makes any sense:

We have two simmers in my league. Simmer A sims the end of the World Series. He then uploads the file, not including the "retired.dat" option.

Simmer B downloads the file and sims through November, and this time HE clicks the "include retired.dat" when he uploads the file. Keep in mind Simmer B never had the retired.dat because Simmer A never uploaded it.

Simmer A then downloads the file that Simmer B uploaded, which includes the retired.dat (which simmer b really never had). Thus, Simmer A's retired.dat is overwritten by Simmer B's retired.dat....and now the real retired.dat is gone forever.

I guess my first question would be....when is the retired.dat updated? Immediately following the World Series?

I'm pretty sure your scenario is exactly why the retired.dat got trashed.

As far as I know, the file gets updated every time someone retires. This is usually on Jan 1, but can happen any time, including if you manually retire players.

Hopefully, Simmer A has a backup?

There are no backups, unfortunately. There is a pretty small window to make sure you get this right. Only one person ever has the correct retired.dat, and he probably only had it for 24 hours at most.

This is really bad. We lost an entire season's worth of retired players including the all-time HR leader and all time batting champ. They are just gone, like they never even existed.

Well, we tried taking a backup of 2023 and simming until the end of the season . Then we took the retired.dat and copied it to the 2024 file. That doesn't work. For some reason all the player IDs get screwed up and the wrong players end up on all the teams.

I don't know why the retired.dat would change everything for non-retired players but oh well.

If you can take a backup and sim it, maybe you can just go back to the backup and restart from there? It's only the replaying of one season I think, although my mind and my eyes aren't seeing the same thing today.

I think you tried the only option really available, it's time to go back and play it again.

there's no way you can take a sim league and re-sim an entire season.

I'm sorry, Qrashman, but it appears that your files were damaged due to the actions of your simmers as listed above. There doesn't appear to be anything to be done.
