Coaches replaced by Unknowns

I'm having a slight problem with a solo league. A fair number of coaches and managers in the league have been replaced by "Joe Unknown". These guys have no ratings, take no salary and have contracts that either last several hundred years or expired in 2009 (the league is in the 2010 offseason). If I try to click on one, the game crashes, so I can't fire them or replace them. I tried turning the coaching off and on again, and they didn't go away. Is there any way to fix this or delete those coaches?

Is this a fictional league or was it created with a roster set?

How large is your coaches.dat file? Did you ever do anything with it?

Fictional league, started from scratch. My coaches.dat file size is 1273 KB. I wouldn't have the slightest idea on how to modify it, so I've never touched it.

Because I've lost a solo league before, I have a backup copy from the start of the season. That coaches.dat file is 1115 KB. If I swapped out the old file from the start of the season with the new file from the end of the season, what that fix things of screw them up worse?

How far into the season are you? Taking the backup coaches file might screw things up worse, but you could try backing up all of your existing files (after moving your coaches.bak elsewhere first, of course) and then swapping in your old coaches.bak.

How long have managers been showing up as Joe Unknown? Did you crash while saving at any point recently?

It definitely looks like your coaches.dat file got messed up somehow. I don't know why your solo leagues keep ending up with these kinds of problems.

For future reference, I have been told that, "I ended up swapping the season-old coaches file for the current broken one, and it seemed to work okay. Maybe there will be some bizarre issues that will pop up later, but for now, that seems to have solved it."
