AI Lineup Creation

As has been noted earlier, with AI Lineup creation, there still exist many opportunities for improvement. I'd like to suggest a methodology that I believe is simple, effective, and easy to implement...

Part 1: Assign the players with the 2 highest Power ratings to the 4th & 5th positions.

Part 2: Assign the (remaining) fastest player to the 1st position.

Part 3: Assign the (remaining) players with the highest batting averages to the 3rd & 2nd positions.

Part 4: Assign the (remaining) players with the 3 worst batting averages to the 8th-6th positions. Thus, your lineup would look something like this...

1. Fastest player
2. 2nd best batting average
3. Best batting average
4. Best Power hitter
5. 2nd best power hitter
6. 3rd worst batting average
7. 2nd worst batting average
8. Worst batting average
9. Pitcher

What do you guys think, and what would you suggest as alternative strategies?

i use the dh, so mine's a little different, and it varies based on slumps and hot streaks

1. fastest player
2. best OBP
3. 2nd best power hitter (by HRs, not ratings)
4. best power hitter
5. best avg of remaining or 3rd best power hitter
6-8 in descending order of BA and/or OBP
9. 2nd fastest player

I also vary mine by slumps & hot streaks. Your "best OBP" is interesting. In my lineups I had thought about replacing the fastest player with the best OBP, but I think I'll give your idea of using both a try.

I still like having the best BA at 3, and the 2nd best power at 5, but I think this is mostly just a matter of style. Good input. Thanks for the info.

well, i know its a bit hackish and non traditional to use the DH, but i like it...and thanks.
I tried having my worst BA in the 9th spot, but found out that having my second fastest guy 9th (i usually have at least 2 guys with 30+ SB) really sets the table in late innings. I figure that my 8th guy will more than likely end an inning if there's 2 outs. Then I set up with speedster, speedster, on base machine, then a power hitter that has to be pitched to (cuz my top slugger is on deck)

An interesting and valid discussion, but since it seems to have dried up and doesn't actually fall under the heading of Technical Support, I'm going to close it up. If you'd like to restart it in General Discussions, then that would seem a great idea.
