Hangups, season redone, new stats added to old stats

I'm using a Mac G4 with 933 MHz of processor speed, and Mac OS X 10.4.11. My league is in its 53rd season. During all the standard OOTP data-saving stuff on 12/31, the game hung up during a team report. Hours later, no change. Knowing I was probably doing something profoundly stupid, I force-quit the game and tried again.

This time, while loading (I think -- not sure if I'm remembering right), it hung up while finalizing.

So I tried again, knowing I was probably doing something profoundly stupid again.

All seems well this time, except... during spring training, when the previous season's leaderboard came up, I noticed that it showed leaders from the *first* attempt at the 53rd season -- for raw stats, that is. For batting average, OPS, ERA, and the VORP stats, the leaders were at 1.000, 5.000, 0.00, etc. And now the leaderboards are adding numbers compiled in the third attempt with the numbers it generated in the first attempt -- for instance, I expect to see at least one pitcher with 400 strikeouts.

Have I hopelessly hosed this league? Have I screwed up the individual player stats forever? Will there be, like, two World Series for Season 53? Is there a way to wipe Season 53 -- all incarnations -- and begin it again?

Thanks.

Update:

Once the third try at the 53rd season got to about July, I decided to force-quit (rather than save). Now it looks like the numbers are back to normal (as opposed to Season 53 Version 1 plus Season 53 Version 3). However:

* While the SION pages and profile pages show Season 53 stats and history up through December of Year 53, the team pages seem to reflect Season 52 numbers. And now that I look more closely, there are Season 53 stats for only *some* of the players.

* The history page doesn't show World Series results from Season 53. The accomplishments pages don't show stuff from Season 53, either.

* The current date is January 1 of Season 53.

* There's no almanac for Season 53. Is there a way to "force" the creation of one?

I'm starting to think this league is hosed beyond recognition and that I need to retire it, since I haven't done a backup since Season 47 or so. Is that your take?

Yeah, things aren't sounding so good there. Quitting while saving is really bad news. Which version of the game are you using, please?

In regard to the original hangups, you mention that you are in season 53 of your saved game. Exactly how large is your game universe? How high are your stat details set? Were you saving box scores and game logs for all of your leagues as you simmed that far? It sounds like your league had gotten fairly bogged down.

This is 8.0.0.13 for the Mac. The league has two subleagues with eight teams apiece, and five levels of minors. I had been saving, like, everything until you suggested getting rid of the boxscores and such, at which time I changed the settings so as *not* to save boxscores, logs, etc. The stat details are set high, though since I really didn't pay attention to the minor league stuff, I could set the detail to low there.

So... it sounds like I've got a 53-year baseball encyclopedia before the planet blows up. Too bad, really -- this was a fun sim. I'd been thinking of rerunning it anyway, though, with some different options.

Here's what I forgot to ask: If the game hangs up while saving, what do I do? It was at 40% and had just started the team reports, and I know it shouldn't still have been on the first team after three hours....

By the way, thanks for all your help with this.

If the game permanently hangs up or crashes while you are saving, you're in trouble. I wish that I had a better answer than that, but in my experience that tends to be the case for pretty much any game out there.

Your best bet is to back up your saved game regularly. If the in-game process takes too long, just make a copy of the .dat files in your .lg saved game folder, then overwrite your .dat files with the backup ones if your saved game ever becomes damaged.

When you start a new league, take a close look at your settings to see exactly what you need. Watch L/R splits, post season data, and fielding data in addition to the box scores, game logs, and stat detail. Especially if you are running a long-term sim, it all really starts adding up.

I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help with this one. Is there anything else that I can assist you with?

No, thanks -- and I do appreciate the help and attention you've given these particular matters. The .dat files advice above sounds really helpful, and when I run the sim again, I'll cut way back on files to be generated. What I think really hurt here is that while I did back up all the files, I only did it about every 10 years... and I was still a few years away from the next backup.
