Wrong starting teams for 1871 historical league

Version: 9.0.26
PC.MAC: PC
What were you doing? I am trying to create a historical league starting in 1871.
What Happened? After the league was created and the teams were listed I noticed that the teams are actually from the 1872 season. The correct players are imported. Obvious work around is to edit the league structure and rename the teams.
Reproducible? Yes
Problem occurs with other leagues? No

Did you click the option to "Keep this season's statistics in player's career stats" ? because that automatically puts the start year one year on from what you put in the historical wizard box.

That option was not checked when the league was created. The correct players were imported just not the correct team cities and mascot names.

I created historical leagues starting in 1871 to 1900. This is what I found. The games uses the same 8 teams broken into 2 four team leagues from 1871 to 1881. Then from 1882 on it uses 16 teams in 2 eight team leagues. The teams city and names are correct up to a point. The game always seems to add Boston, Detoit, Philadelphia and Chicago to the list no matter what. These teams will have different mascot names each year but have the franchise ids of BOS, DET, PHA and CHA.

I've asked LGO to come and have a look at this and see what he makes of it.

If I recall correctly, that's what it is supposed to do for the pre-1901 period. OOTP as yet cannot recreate the kind of league expansions, contractions, and folding that actually happened during that time, and so a somewhat simplified approach to the teams and leagues from 1871-1900 has been chosen.

As to why you can't get started in 1871 as opposed to 1872, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the explanation, though I think I am being misunderstood.

Now that I know it is designed this way I don't have a problem. As I originally said I can work around the team names by editing the league structure. The players are importing correctly for the starting year. So yes I can start in 1871. I just need to do some house cleaning.

It took about an hour to get the league, schedule and rosters setup. I have played just the first month though. The reason is that I have to play all the games. I see that an old problem still occurs when using small rosters and 1 man pitching rotations. I had position players playing their position as well as pitching if I let the computer play the games and the pitcher had become too fatigued.

Is there anything that needs to be logged as a bug here?

Nope, the team issue is an understandable design compromise and can be changed through editing the league structure.
