BZ 1577: Pitcher signed off my team

In june of my game year, I had a pitcher signed by another team in my league right off my staff. He had signed an extension the previous august. and was under contract for 3 more years.

Similar thing happened in another saved game when my scouts ID'd a new prospect that was playing for someone else. It let me sign him anyway.

My guess is that the free agent flag is not flipped when an extension is signed.

Are these imported games (if so what version were they imported from)? It sounds like some of these players might be created twice in your game, but that's just a guess.

No these were clean created games from ootp9. no imports.

I did create the games in 1961 and simmed to 1987 so the playerID may be being re-used. I do not select the "delete those who don't reach minors" option.

the game was created with the release but the screenshots are after the patch was applied.

I believe the problem should lie in scouts finding hidden players that aren't hidden. There have been a few other threads like this, I'm not sure if its been logged, but I know I haven't. I'll try to search for the other threads.

It may have something to do with trading for a player who is in his last year of a contract before FA.

Another instance just happened, I acquired a player from a WL team in a trade. later, that same team signed him to a contract. The odd thing here is that he still shows up in my roster screens, but opening his player profile it says he is on the WL team

Not sure if this is a bug....

I've had two players who signed contracts with others teams while the season was ongoing. Both players were in their option year, but never got to abritration because they signed those contracts with other teams. This did not happen in version 8. Considering one of those players was a SS who hit 42 HRs the year before, it was a bit of a shock to see that hole in the lineup.

What gives?

I was having players signed right off my roster. I don't know why, but it was happening too frequently. I understand free agents, but these weren't. They signed to contracts on my major league roster.

they're finding hidden players that aren't really hidden, I believe.

11-14-56 Signed 2 year extension with same team
05-31-57 Signed a contract with a different team!

These guys weren't free agents.

I could see how the hidden player thing might be the culprit.

I turned off "ghost players" and had the same problem. It's really annoying...

I just changed this to highest priority, now that we have so many reported instances of it.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's got something to do with players who are still in the option years - first 3 years or so. I'm going to try to sign my better players to contracts rather than let the make the minimum.

A new wrinkle on this issue. Player signs with other team but does not actually go to the other team.

1) This guy is in my minor league system
2) 06-21-56 he signs a minor league contract with Giants
3) 03-26-57 he signs with the Dodgers! (Terrible decision...)
4) He does not change teams though... he is still in the Giants minor league system

On the roster pages, does he sho up in the Giants org but with the dodgers team/league info? That happened to my player. He was stolen from me but stayed in my rotation for a while. I don't remember the trigger that made him go away, but that is how I doscovered that it happened.
