Game Crashes on Launch
Purchased the game earlier this week. Installed to my desktop pc ok, but cannot get it to run on my laptop.
My laptop is an IBM Thinkpad T43, XP SP2. After launching the program I get the following dialogue box : "ootp9.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I checked every solution on the forums, drivers, reinstalled, changed resolutions, made sure elicense was ok and still getting the same error. Any ideas what this could be? |

How much space is available on your hard drive? Have you defragged recently? If not, please try that as it has worked for at least one other individual.

56GB drive. 29GB free space. Ran disk cleaner and defrag. Still get the same error.
As I recall I also got this identical error with Titlebout 2.5 on this laptop and could never get it to run. These are the only 2 programs where I have ever experienced an issue. Would be willing to try any further suggestions. Thank you |

OK, when you reinstalled did you delete the program files folder and the my docs folder with OOTP9 stuff or did you just run the uninstaller? If the latter please try to delete the other stuff as well and then reinstall.

What is your video card? Are you certain you have the most current driver for it?

I installed a copy of Titlebout 2 and got the same error. When I ran the troubleshooting mode on Titlebout 2, it loaded (it appears by disabling Direct3d).
My direct3d version is 6.14.10.0503. Any known issues with this version? |

I finally solved the issue with OOTP9 and Titlebout on my laptop. Passing along the solution for reference in the event any others experience a similar issue (it appears this one was rare but I did see some old posts with this problem).
The fix was right click on the game icon, shortcut, advanced, check the box "run with different credentials". I selected my username and input my password and it loaded fine. Although the username/password is the same I logged in with, it appears it must be selected manually. My issue was obviously tied to having a few different logons/users available. Had no issues on my Vista desktop. All set.... |
