AS game schedule issue
MLB style league, fictional players.. I noticed in 2011 that I had the proper 3 days off in July for AS weekend, players were announced for the AS game, but no AS game was scheduled.
In 2011, the game is now schedule, but it's scheduled on a day that there are also league games. |

Necessary questions:
1) Do you have the "Hold All-Star Game" option enabled in the schedule section of the Options tab? 2) Do you have the "Automatically Schedule All-Star Game" option enabled in the schedule section of the Options tab? You only need to have #1 enabled to get an All-Star Game if the schedule file has an All-Star Game date specified in it. If you have #1 and #2 enabled, and the schedule file has an All-Star Game date specified in it, then OOTP gets confused and you can end up with an All-Star Game being scheduled for a date when league games are also scheduled. The "Automatically Schedule All-Star Game" option is intended for schedule files that do not have an All-Star Game date specified in it. In such cases, when using this option, OOTP will then find the approximate mid-point of the schedule and insert and All-Star Game and break into the schedule.

In 2011, there was the standard 3 game break on July 17, 18, and 19, but no AS game.. this year there is a 4 day break on July 16-19, but the AS game is on the 12th right smack dab in the middle of a normal game day.

Can you open up the schedule .lsdl file for that league and take a look at the top of the file? Specifically, search for the string of text which says:
allstar_game_day="98" The number in quotes will be the day number the All-Star Game is scheduled to be played. In the example above, it's set for the 98th day of the season. If the number inside the quotes is zero, then no All-Star Game date was set. I would suggest after your season is done and you've reached the subsequent pre-season, delete your schedule, set the parameters you want, and then generate a new schedule, or import a schedule. The only time I've seen the kind of thing with the All-Star Game is when the Automatically Schedule option was on at one point and their was also an All-Star Game date specified in the schedule file. If I recall correctly it'll keep happening until you regenerate the schedule file or import a new one.

This is from the default major_league_ml_c_2008 schedule that comes with the game. I've done nothing to change it. So do I just let the AS game play out on the same day as league games? Thanks for your help! |

If you're already into your season, yeah, I think you'll have to, though I don't think it'll harm anything other than looking strange when you review your league. You may be able to delete the All-Star Game and manually reschedule it from the schedule editor; I can't recall at the moment if the All-Star Game shows up in the editor or not.

The schedule editor? Yes. You can find it under League Preferences, it's in the Editors section ("Edit League Schedule"). Be advised however that the screen in which you do your editing is not particularly user-friendly.

Figured out how to delete that AS game. I'll play this year out and then figure out how to get it back working once next season starts. Appreciate all the help! |

Not sure what you mean. Can you elaborate?

For example, say you had an MLB-like schedule that had a single Sunday night game between NL East rivals to open the season. The first year it might be Atlanta at New York, but the next year, after swapping the teams around, the matchup might be Philadelphia at Florida. The game swaps around the team IDs to create new matchups, but the schedule of games is the same. The only drawback to this system is for single-division leagues in that the matchups may result in situations where the road trips look odd since the team swapping doesn't know about the geography of the league. But that's something probably only the most diehard of nitpickers would notice. However, for such folks there is a solution: they can create schedules for a series of seasons and then, by naming the schedule files appropriately, have those schedules load consecutively after each season. This is also useful for those who want interleague matchups to rotate on a fixed basis (though of course it means creating more schedule files).

Thanks.. I just want a normal MLB schedule that assigns an all star game every year.. I'm just not sure why mine isn't working right.
I'll see what happens next season.
