"Run Time" error when importing 2008 file

Hi-
I play in an online league that still uses OOTP 8. I have been using the HTML version of the game, but have now purchased OOTP 9 in anticipation of our league switching over in the off-season.

I've been trying to import the current OOTP 8 league file into my OOTP 9 program. I am using the "Import 2007/2008 game" tab and have a correctly configured league file. But when the loading of the file hits 50%, I get a "Microsoft Run Time error" and the program shuts down. It has happened 5 times since last night.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Jdudas, are you saying that you're trying to import your GM copy of your league into OOTP 9, and you're not the online commissioner?

In order to use your online league with OOTP 9, your commissioner would need to upgrade, and then post an OOTP 9 version of your league file.

Or did I misunderstand you?

Thanks,

Steve

Jumping in here (Since I'm the commish of the league jdudas is in), wouldn't it be possible for him to convert his copy of our league file into OOTP 9 and access his team there? I know he wouldn't be able to use OOTP 9 to export since the league is still run off OOTP 8, but I didn't think there was anything that would prevent an owner from importing his copy of the league file to 9. In fact I'm pretty sure a few of our owners have done this just to poke around and see how OOTP 9 looks.

Corsairs is right on; I know that I won't be able to use OOTP 9 for playing the OOTP 8 game, but I was wanting to be able to access the league file to access all of the information that I can't get through the HTML version.

Can you get me, or point me to the exact league file that you are trying to import and view? I'm guessing it's available somewhere on the league server?

The league file is here, in the upper left hand screen, under "PEBA Links." It's the one titled "league file." Thank you so much for your help.

OK, so, it works fine for me on my Mac. Doesn't mean there's not a problem, but it is good information.

On what operating system are you trying to do this?

I really doubt this is it, but can you please try turning off your anti-virus software before trying it again?

You can also load this league file simply by using the "open game" option. (You don't have to use the "import" option.)

Thanks!

Thanks!

I disabled my anti-virus software and tried both to import the file and the "load game" option, same problem. Is the "open game" feature different from the load feature?

Well, it shouldn't be, really, but when you're troubleshooting, anything is game.

Does the error message you receive have any more information in it? Is there an option to see more detail on the message?

Given the fact that the league file loads fine for me and for others apparently, I'm inclined to think there's some sort of conflict going on in your game.

Are you able to create a new league of your own without error?

Can you tell me at which point it errors out? I know you said "50%", but does it say anything on the screen at that time?

Thanks!

I am able to create a new fictional league with no problem.

At about 50%, and sometimes at 22% of the load, this error message appears:
Its heading reads: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"

The body of the message:
"Runtime Error! Program:...s\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 9\ootp9.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Any chance you could take a screenshot of this and either post it here, or e-mail it to me at steve.battisti (AT) ootpdevelopments.com?

Do you have an alternate computer?

Thanks!

Yes; I'll try to do a screen capture of the message tomorrow. I do have a work computer. I haven't tried loading OOTP on it, but I'll give that a try and be back in touch tomorrow.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Ok; so everything works great on my work computer. I won't have a chance to work on my home computer again until tonight, at which time I'll try to post a screen capture of the error message.

Hi-
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually have tried this; I had the same error problem. I apologize for not posting the screen cap. of the error message. I'll try to do it tomorrow.
