Sad about crashes

My latest crash with 9.1.2 is 9/1 of my second season. I can hit any button that I like as long as I don't try to get to my pitching staff. This time I decided to use the fictional league that was set up by the staff.

This is my fourth attempt at conducting some type of fictional league. I have very swiftly fallen in love with each of my teams. Exactly as I would expect from OOTP from my many years of enjoying the product. I keep assuming that I am somehow causing these issues but I think I have reached my limit.

I read a closed crash thread that was closed earlier today. The moderator made the final suggestion to redownload the game and reinstall it. I spent the 20 minutes redownloading and the few minutes reinstalling it. I think this is probably my last effort. The immediate crash upon clicking my pitching staff did seem a little bit quicker this time.

This was definitely the most captivating edition of any sports simulation. i cut my teeth on Earl Weaver baseball. Fell in love with the most simple boxing simulations. Watched the ChampMan series become World Wide Soccer Management. As I sit here, I can see the Baseball Mogul symbols and the Football Mogul symbols. I have played Strat-O-Matic on the PC and was simply amazed at the freeware game that became NHL Eastside Hockey Manager. I believe I have the experience to say this one was the best. It is simply a shame that it cannot be played.

Ive crashed four times starting my second season; twice after playing out the first game and trying to exit and twice more doing the same after the second game. Im not sure how much more of this I can take.

I'm curious about something. Did either of your games crash before any of these two patches came out? When I first downloaded the game and played it before any patch was applied, my game ran fine. Then after patch 9.1.0 I think people started getting crashes. I know the 9.1.2 patched seemed to cause even more crashes, and that seems to be when my crash problems started during the save game or game exit process. Was this the same for you guys by any chance or anyone else reading this?

I ask this because if this is indeed true, maybe it would be easier for Markus to reverse something he did in one of these patches restoring the problem area to the release version somehow?

For me my very first season crashed about 20 games into it with the initial release. After the first patch I tried another league, and it crashed about 60 games into the season. Next patch out, crash in late august. I have lost a total of 4 leagues to date, with at least one per version. I have uninstalled and reinstalled each time, and then started a fresh league. I believe that 3 of the 4 I lost were crashes on the autosave upon exit, while 1 crashed during a manual save. Funniest thing is that on 3 of the leagues I had backups that were not far back in time, so I restored them and tried again. Every one of them (except for the initial release version) would crash after the restore whenever I tried ANY action, sim, play game, look at roster, etc. The one that would not crash upon any action would crash the very next day upon a save. This particular one I was able to upload my backup .dat files and my post-crash files to the FTP site, and have never heard 1 word about it. So they have a working league that crashes 100% of the time on the next day.

I have mothballed this game and if I am unable to play this game within the next month, I probably will not buy any more future games, which is sad.

I get a strange error when I try to sim a day in your league dougmichel which I have added to the BZ 1755 thread, about an error in order defense, part 1. Do you get the same message?

That file I just get crashes when I try to do anything. I get the windows popup that the program has crashed, I don't normally get to see the error message from the program when it crashes. My older files on the FTP one should be dougmichelbackup or whatever should have a working league but will crash upon the next day if you try to save (at least it always did for me). Each of my leagues whenever a crash occured on a save, the league was destroyed in one way or another, always crashes of some sort. I can check it out when I get home if I still have the league on my drive.

I was just finishing my 8th season when I got the shut down crash that corrupted the file and would not load back up. I know I know backup but it sure gets nerve racking everytime you go to shut down and your holding your breath, most times it doesn't affect anything but then there are times it kills it all. Frustration really does take the fun out of things and I can understand people walking away from this game. But hopefully it will be addressed I was surprised to see this as bug fixed because that just isn't so. Just my two cents worth. I still think its the greatest sim out there but that will change if they don't address these LONG standing problems...

Ok I opened the league that my zip is about, and I can repeat the error you get if I try to auto play today from the drop down menu. When I try to auto-sim week from the manager screen it goes to the schedule real quick, then I get the windows crash message, no OOTP error. Same thing happens with play game. As I mentioned in my thread, I get the windows crash message for every team function. I am able to check out free agents and stuff, but as soon as I go to trade player, or try my own roster, crash. Putting it into commissioner mode doesnt help either.

I've been looking through the logged issues with BZ numbers, and I don't see one that addresses the save game or game exit crash. Am I just missing it? This is a big problem for alot of us and should be the #1 issue for Markus, shouldn't it?

It would go along way if Markus could say a word or two about this and ease alot of concerns that many are having. Or maybe have a BZ # logged for this problem. If there is one, I'm sorry, I'm just not seeing it.

I'm really not trying to be a pain or anything along those lines, but as with the many others posting about these crashes, I'm a bit concerned it's not being addressed correctly.

Well the issue with my zip referenced in this thread now does have a BZ, and since it is the result of an auto-save crash corruption, hopefully it finally gets looked at. It is crash for trying everything in the logged section. Mine the messages.dat is the one that gets corrupted.

If you look in the claimed fixed you will see BZ1718 as fixed or closed. But this has not been fixed and has been around atleast since 2007.

I had a crash with the original version. Everybody's name changed to Smith, well not everybody, but about 90 % of my roster. That is why I decided to load the patch. Normally, I wait until the community says good things about a patch if I am enjoying the game and I was.

My crash was not on the save game nor was it on reopening, so these comments probably belong another place. But, it does not matter to me. Like I said earlier, the game is broken, it is sad. Markus always does a great job, just not this time, I guess.

Actually, that's in the logged issues forum, not the closed/claimed fixed one.

Sorry Nutlaw then you must have two files because the one I'm talking about is in the closed with a padlock on it. If I'm mistaken then my humble apologies I just like yourself would like to see this dealt with. There is nothing worse then having that crash at closing that wipes everything out. Now I will agree that most of the time you get a closing crash it is still okay, however every so often that crash wipes everything out and if you don't backup your screwed. Lets face it this is happening to too many people for it to be nothing else but a problem with the game.

If you look at the top of the tech file it says Closed or claimed fixed the very last entry is CRASH AT END OF GAME. Look in the Tech sub forum, so obviously we are not talking about the same type of crash. The fact remains that there are problems.
