Star Player disappears

The star pitcher in the league I'm building a history for finally became a free agent after six amazing seasons with NY. I notice the next year he isn't on any of the leaderboards and check it out to discover he's not playing. I figure he was just too expensive for anyone to sign because he's been amazing, but he also doesn't show up on the free agent list. He doesn't show up on the "all players" list. I can't find him anywhere.

By going through the league history page I'm able to get to his profile and I find out that he's decided to retire at 30 after sitting out a year. I don't care for this so I unretire him and put him on my shortlist so he's easy to find. I go back to the free agent list to make sure he's returned from retirement but he's not there. I check my shortlist and he's not there. I track him down through the history page again and manually edit his profile so that it says he is a free agent in my league. I check the list and he's not there. So this time I manually put him back on NY and give him the highest salary in the league. He now shows up properly on New York's team page but his salary isn't included in any of the financial reports.

What's going on?

Edit: I just found another stud pitcher with the same problem. Became free agent->didn't sign->sat out a year->retired->manually unretired but doesn't appear on free agent list->manually placed on new team, plays remainder of year->becomes free agent but doesn't appear on free agent list.

I can understand great pitchers being unwilling to sign for less than they think they are worth but I don't understand them not appearing on the free agent list.

Just found another player, again a star pitcher. He's supposedly a free agent but no one can offer him because he doesn't appear on the free agent list.

Is this a fictional league, or one based upon MLB? If the latter, is it a historical league?

Are you using version 9.1.2?

I was using 9.1.0 when it happened. Then I upgraded to 9.1.2 and it is still happening. It is a fictional league. I started with two separate major leagues in 1905 then combined them in 1921 into a new league. It is now 1929. I've found six players so far to whom this has happened. All of them were created before the merger and this happens when they reach free agency for the first time. All of them were very good players, though two were closers.

I manually signed one player to a one-year contract, but when he returned to the free agent pool he once again was not on the free agent list so I had to re-sign him via the editor again. The top players who were created post-merger have acted normally, so I don't know if that has something to do with it.

I have the "Free agents can leave league" box checked, but there are no other leagues to go to.

Could you please FTP us a zipped copy of your .dat files and let us know both the file name and the names of the players in question? Thanks.
